Divock Origi: Liverpool sign Belgium striker from Lille for £10m

Liverpool have signed Belgium striker Divock Origi from Lille for £10m.
The 19-year-old has agreed a five-year contract but will remain at the French club on loan next season and move to Anfield in 2015.
"I am very happy and delighted a club as big as Liverpool showed interest in me," he said. "I'm very excited."
Origi played in all five of Belgium's games at the 2014 Fifa World Cup during their run to the quarter-finals and scored in the 1-0 win over Russia.
"I know it's a club with a great history, great fans and a lot of great players, " he added.
"For me, Liverpool is one of the greatest clubs in the world and I'm very excited to be part of this great history."
Origi began his career at Genk before moving to Lille as a 15-year-old.
He becomes Liverpool's sixth signing of the summer following Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren from Southampton,
plus Emre Can from Bayer Leverkusen and Lazar Markovic from Benfica.

Liverpool are ready to pip Tottenham and Arsenal to Divock Origi by offering to loan him back to Lille for a season.
The 19-year-old has been Belgium's saviour at the World Cup and has drawn rave reviews.
Liverpool have watched him most of the season and want to beat the competition
with a £6million bid and will send him back to France for a year to continue his development.



Origi seems keen too, having revealed it is his dream to one day feature in the Premier League.
But the youngster is keeping grounded while in Brazil and will not decide on his future yet.
'As a little boy I always dreamed of playing in the Premier League,' said Origi, as reported by the Express.
'But I'm still young and now I'm in an important tournament so I'm trying to focus on the team.
Then my entourage will see with Lille what I will do.'

Transfer news: Belgium striker Divock Origi admits Premier League football is his dream



Belgium goal-hero Divock Origi admits that playing in the Premier League is his dream after enjoying a breakthrough at the World Cup.

The 19-year-old, who currently plays in France with Lille, has impressed during his two substitute appearances in Brazil

and he stepped off the bench to net a late winner as Belgium beat Russia 1-0 to secure their place in the last 16.

Tottenham have reportedly been keeping tabs on the striker,

while Arsenal and Liverpool are among the host of other European clubs to have been linked with a move for him.

Origi says that he is only concerned about the World Cup at this moment in time,

but acknowledges that playing in the top flight of English football is something that has appealed to him for some time.

"As a little boy I always dreamed of playing in the Premier League but I'm still young and now I'm in an important tournament so I'm try to focus on the team," he said.

"Then my entourage will see with Lille what I'll do."

Origi featured 30 times in Ligue 1 last season, scoring six goals in the process as Lille secured an impressive third-placed finish.

Transfer News: Reported Liverpool target Divock Origi tipped to shine in Premier League

Jan Vertonghen believes Belgium team-mate Divock Origi has the qualities to make an impact in the Premier League.

Teenage striker Origi has impressed as a substitute at the World Cup after coming off the bench

to score the only goal against Russia before having a hand in Vertonghen’s winner against South Korea.

Origi currently plays in Ligue 1 for Lille, but Premier League trio Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham have all been linked with a move for the 19-year-old

Reports have claimed that Liverpool are closing in on the signing of Origi and will then loan the forward back to Lille for next season.

Vertonghen has praised Origi’s impact in Brazil and the Tottenham defender is predicting a bright future for his international colleague.

“Origi has the qualities to play for a good team in the Premier League,” said Vertonghen.

“I think he shows it every game. He has come on and changed games for us.”

Vertonghen is also keen to see another teenage member of Belgium’s World Cup squad – Adnan Januzaj – given more opportunities at Manchester United next season.

He added: “Januzaj is like Origi, he plays like he’s on the street.

“I hope Adnan can get to play more games at United to show just how good he is.”
