Jurgen Klopp confirms he will leave Borussia Dortmund in summerJurgen Klopp will leave Borussia Dortmund at the end of the Bundesliga season, the German coach has announced. The news will have a number of English clubs on high alert, as the much-celebrated coach could be tempted by a move to the Premier League.
Klopp has been made a firm favourite to replace the under pressure Manuel Pellegrini at Manchester City and is also seen as a long-term successor to Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger. The former Mainz coach is set have a sabbatical after departing Signal Iduna Park, but could be tempted to move elsewhere sooner rather than later if the project is right for him.
Dortmund struggled in the first half of this season, finishing 2014 bottom of the Bundesliga, but form has improved in the new year, with the side currently sitting 10th in the table
Under Klopp, Dortmund reached the Champions League final in 2013 and the semi-final last season, but lost to Juventus in the knockout phase this time around. As Klopp speaks perfect English he would need minimal adjustment if he were to take a job in the Premier League.Last year he told BT Sport: “It’s the only country, I think, where I should work, really, next to Germany, because it’s the only country I know the language a little bit and I need the language for my work.
“So we will see. If somebody will call me, then we will talk about it.”
Klopp has been linked with a number of clubs in the past, but since the rumours of his departure began, he has been made the favourite to take over from Pellegrini at the Etihad.
Manchester City look set to overhaul their squad in the summer, meaning the German would have a clean slate and a fresh set of players to working with, something which could entice him to England.
Where Klopp will end up is unknown, but he won't be short of suitors.
