Edin Dzeko joins Roma in season-long loan deal

Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko has joined Roma on a season-long loan deal with a view to a permanent move.

Dzeko joined City in January 2011 from Bundesliga side Wolfsburg, and played 189 times for the team during his four-and-a-half year stay.

The Bosnia international had the knack of scoring crucial goals for City and his late equaliser away to Notts County in the FA Cup set Roberto Mancini’s side up for a cup run that would eventually end with a 1-0 win over Stoke, ending the Blues’ 35-year wait for a trophy.

Dzeko also found the target on the final day of the following season when his injury time equaliser against QPR set up the dramatic climax that saw City snatch the Premier League title in the dying seconds.

A statement from Manchester City read: “Everybody at the club wishes Edin the very best for the future and thank him for his excellent service with Manchester City.”

Dzeko said on the Roma website: "I came here to win titles with Roma.

"I hope we will win many trophies but first we have to work hard on the field and in the end, we can get where we want. I can only promise you one thing: I will give my best to this team in every game."

Roma’s trip to meet with Manchester City for Dzeko is confirmed

Roma continues to work on signing Edin Dzeko.
After reaching an agreement with the striker, the Giallorossi will meet with Manchester City to try to acquire the player.
While the exact date isn't certain, Roma will send some representatives to England.
Manchester City is leaving for their summer tour on Tuesday, it's also possible the two clubs could meet in Australia, where Roma will play in the pre season.

Walter Sabatini has arrived in England, he's on a mission to sign Edin Dzeko. Roma's sporting director took a flight from Munich and he landed in Manchester,
where he'll met with representatives from City to start the critical phase of the negotiation.
The Bosnian striker also recently arrived in Manchester to join his teammates for the Citizens Australian tour,
Roma will also participate in that tour so it remains to be seen which jersey Dzeko will be wearing.
Sabatini is in Manchester to close the deal as soon as possible.

Edin Dzeko’s Manchester City future unsure says Manuel Pellegrini



Manuel Pellegrini admits he is unsure whether Edin Dzeko will remain at Manchester City beyond the end of the summer.

The 29-year-old forward, who has been linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium, was an unused substitute in City’s pre-season victory over Roma in the International Champions Cup on Tuesday.

Roma are among the clubs reportedly interested in signing Dzeko and City manager Pellegrini revealed the future of the Bosnia and Herzegovina international is uncertain.

“Edin didn’t play the last game as it’s not clear if he will continue here but he is still working here with the whole squad,” Pellegrini said.

Dzeko joined City in 2011 from German side Wolfsburg for £27m and played a pivotal role in the club’s Premier League title winning campaigns during the 2011/12 and 2013/14 seasons.  

However, following the £28m arrival of Wilfried Bony from Swansea City in January, Dzeko was restricted to just six starts with the Ivory Coast forward and Sergio Aguero preferred in attack.

Edin Dzeko has moved closer to the Manchester City exit after manager Manuel Pellegrini admitted uncertainty over the striker's future.
The Chilean manager confirmed Dzeko's unclear future is the reason why he has not played a single minute on the club's pre-season tour of Australia.
Dzeko has been strongly linked with Roma and is expected to join the Italian club if they increase their £12million offer closer to City's £20million valuation.
The Bosnia striker and teammate Stevan Jovetic - whose representatives are in talks with Inter Milan - have not played on tour even though Pellegrini has stated his desire to give all the players an equal amount of game time.
Both players were unused substitutes against Roma on Tuesday when City made 11 changes during the game, and appear unlikely to face Real Madrid at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday.

Pellegrini said: 'Edin didn’t play the last game as it's not clear if he will continue here but he is still working here with the whole squad.'
Meanwhile, record £49m signing Raheem Sterling is set to make his second appearance for City after scoring less than three minutes into his debut against Roma here on Tuesday.
The England forward played in his preferred position on the left flank, but Pellegrini is prepared to use him in a more central role when needed.
He added: ‘We will see. Raheem can play in both positions and do it very well. From the left side he can be free. There can be several different reasons for him to play in the two positions but we will see.
‘We are near to the start of the Premier League season. It’s important for us to play at a good pace, and I think the fans will see a good game.’
Pellegrini is determined to improve on last season when City surrendered the title to Chelsea and went out of the Champions League knockout stage to Barcelona for the second year in a row.

Edin Dzeko agrees terms with Roma but fee not settled, Sky sources say

Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko has agreed personal terms with Roma, according to Sky sources.

But the two clubs are yet to settle on a fee for the Bosnia and Herzegovina international, who has won two Premier League titles in four seasons with City.

Dzeko started just 11 league games last season, and Manuel Pellegrini this month admitted the £27m signing's future could lie away from Manchester.

City committed as much as £49m to signing Raheem Sterling this summer and also have January arrival Wilfried Bony ready to start his first full season at the club.

But Steven Jovetic is set to join Inter on loan, and Dzeko's departure would leave just Bony and Sergio Aguero as recognised senior centre-forwards.

Roma have already raided the Premier League once this week to sign Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny on loan.
