German World Cup winner Bastian Schweinsteiger has become the highest-profile victim of Jose Mourinho's 'clear-out Thursday' with nine players told they can leave the club, either permanently or on loan.All nine players were informed personally by Mourinho of the decision and trained with the Under 21s at Manchester United's training base at Carrington rather than with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the rest of the first-team squad.It is unlikely any of the nine will be involved in United's friendly against Galatasaray in Gothenburg on Saturday and there are some surprising names on the list of casualties as Mourinho whittles his squad down to the ideal number of 24.

Brazil Under 20 midfielder Andreas Pereira and striker James Wilson have both been told to go out and gain first-team experience on loan in order to fight for a place at United in the future.The other quartet of sidelined players are Adnan Januzaj, Will Keane, Tyler Blackett and Paddy McNair.It now looks certain that 31-year-old Schweinsteiger has played his last game for United after a disastrous £7million from Bayern Munich last summer due to injuries.The German still has two years of a £160,000-a-week contract left and United hope another club will be willing to pick up the tab.
Mourinho has already signed Eric Bailly, Henrik Mkhitaryan and Ibrahimovic this summer with a world-record £100million swoop for Paul Poga in the offing.
Mourinho spoke to nine United players diving them into 'potential' who should go on loan, and others he's happy to see leave on a permanent basis.
Periera, 20, was one of the first to see the manager and was told he still had a chance at United in the future.The Belgian-born midfielder signed from PSV Eindhoven in 2012 and has made two starts and 11 substitute appearances for United, his only goal coming against Ipswich Town in a Capital One Cup tie last season.
Though Pereira he will probably look to go another Premier League club or to a major European league, Mourinho may try to do business with Championship club Fulham for other players.
His son Jose Jr is on the books at Craven Cottage and manager Slavisa Jokanovic has a reputation for helping to develop young players.
Wilson, who was on loan at Brighton last season, has been told he has a long-term future at the club but is concentrating on building up his fitness before making a decision at the end of next month.
Following their friendly in Sweden this weekend, United face Everton in Wayne Rooney's testimonial on Wednesday followed by the Community Shield at Wembley against Leicester City on August 8.
