Ronald Koeman was left clinging to his job as Everton manager after another disastrous defeat. The Dutchman insists he can turn things around, despite accepting he could draw no positives from a humiliating 5-2 defeat at home by rampant Arsenal.
It dumped Everton into the bottom three although Everton’s principle shareholder Farhad Moshiri and chairman Bill Kenwright could yet give Koeman one more chance to show he can change the mindset of a team that looks to lack direction and drive.
But Koeman admitted: “The decision is not in my hands. All the rumours (about the sack) it is normal.“I mentioned that before, it is normal, the team is under-performing, the team is in a difficult situation, mentally, confidence, we are struggling and it’s what we need to change. "This position in the table is not good enough for Everton," he said.
"I understand that, I have been managing for a long time. But I don't think it is too late.“I personally think I can change the whole situation, but ok, everybody knows what happens in football. That is all I can say about this – it is up to somebody else to say.” He may be given the tough task of going to Chelsea for a Carabao Cup tie on Wednesday, but with a visit to fellow strugglers Leicester looming in the Premier League next weekend, fans seem to have already made up their mind.
Idrissa Gueye had been foolishly himself sent off and Koeman insisted that the result was distorted by the red card to the only real midfielder he selected in the starting line up.

“I think it is not the moment (to talk about turning it around), I spoke to the players and everybody is so disappointed.
“It is how you look to the situation. If you start to think negative then maybe there is no solution. But I am not like that.”
The floodgates opened for Arsenal after Gueye’s dismissal, with goals from Alexandre Lacazette, Aaron Ramsey and Alexis Sanchez adding to the earlier strikes from Nacho Monreal and Mesut Ozil that had cancelled out Wayne Rooney’s opener.
The defeat means Everton have recorded their worst start to a Premier League season in 11 years. And asked if it is a performance that would get managers sacked, Koeman said flatly: “I don’t know, I don’t know.
“I told the players I believe in them, I believe in their commitment but if you are negative thinking, and everybody is doing that at the moment – and on the one side I can understand that – then it is very hard.”
