Black Cats snap up Wickham
Sunderland have pulled off a huge coup with the signing of Ipswich star Connor Wickham.

Steve Bruce has made England under-21 international Connor Wickham his latest summer signing.

The 6'3" 18-year-old - rated as one of the country's brightest talents - has moved from Ipswich Town for a fee of £8m, with the potential to rise to £12m over the course of the contract, depending on a number of factors.

Wickham, who was named the Football League's Young Player of the Year for the 2010-11 season, has signed a four-year deal on Wearside.

The player returned from international duty earlier this week after representing his country in the U21 European Championships in Denmark.

Wickham became Ipswich's youngest ever player when he made his debut for the Tractor Boys aged just 16 years and 11 days.

The striker's first full season yielded a return of six goals in 10 starts and a further 19 appearances off the bench, while he netted nine goals in 40 games last term before winning the prestigious Football League award.

He also scored the winning goal for England's under-17 side in the U17 European Championships Final last summer.

Bruce signs South Korean starlet
Sunderland have confirmed the signing of Ji Dong-won from Chunnam Dragons for an undisclosed fee.

Ji Dong-won is officially a Sunderland player after signing a three-year contract on Wearside.

The 20-year-old striker, who has scored six goals in 11 appearances for his native South Korea, joins from K-League side Chunnam Dragons for an undisclosed fee.

Dong-won scored four goals at the 2011 Asian Cup, marking him out of one of Asia's hottest properties.

South Korea eventually lost in the semi-finals on penalties to Japan, finishing third in the tournament overall.

Dong-won, who stands at almost 6'2", began his career at Gwangyang Jecheol High School before a short spell with Reading during the 2007-08 season.

The frontman joined Chunnam is 2010 and scored 16 goals in 44 appearances for the Dragons, who play in the Korean city of Gwangyang.

Gardner is a Black Cat
Sunderland have made their third signing in a little over 24 hours - Birmingham City midfielder Craig Gardner.

Steve Bruce has completed the signing of Craig Gardner from Birmingham City.

The Solihull-born 24-year-old joins Sunderland on a three-year contract for an undisclosed fee, becoming the Black Cats' third signing in just over 24 hours following the acquisitions of Connor Wickham and Ji Dong-Won.

Gardner enjoyed a career season in 2010-11 but couldn't prevent Birmingham from slipping into the Npower Championship.

He picked up a Carling Cup winners' medal and scored 10 goals in 37 appearances in all competitions during the campaign just ended, including a spectacular long-range strike against the Black Cats at St Andrew's in April.

Eight of those goals came in the Barclays Premier League, ranking the attack-minded player in the league's top ten midfielders in terms of goals scored.

Gardner - Birmingham's leading marksman last season - began his career with Aston Villa, making his senior debut on Boxing Day 2005 in a 4-0 win over Everton.

The former England under-21 international made 80 appearances for Villa overall, scoring six goals, and also tasted European football during his spell at Villa Park.

Birmingham paid their Midlands rivals £3m to acquire Gardner in January 2010 and he quickly became a favourite amongst City fans.

He made 52 appearances for the club during one and a half seasons, figuring in the 2-1 win over Arsenal in the Carling Cup Final back in February.

However, City's bid to escape relegation from the Barclays Premier League in 2010-11 was ultimately unsuccessful, despite Gardner scoring a long-range goal at Tottenham Hotspur on the final day of the season.

Brown makes Sunderland switch
Sunderland have completed the signing of defender Wes Brown from Barclays Premier League champions Manchester United.

Black Cats boss Steve Bruce has bolstered Sunderland's backline with the addition of tough-tackling defender Wes Brown.

Former England international Brown has has put pen to paper on a four-year deal at the Stadium of Light, moving from Old Trafford for an undisclosed fee.

The 31 year-old moves to Wearside with a wealth of experience, including five Premier League winners' medals, two Champions League medals and having won both the FA Cup and League Cup on two occasions with United.

Brown made 361 appearances for Manchester United, scoring 5 goals.

He has also represented his country 23 times, chipping in with one goal during the Three Lions draw with the Czech Republic in 2008.

Sunderland swoop for Vaughan
Sunderland have signed midfielder David Vaughan from Blackpool.

Sunderland have completed the signing of Welsh international David Vaughan after the midfielder's contract expired at Blackpool.

The 28 year-old was one of the Tangerines' star performers last season as Ian Holloway's side gave a creditable account of themselves in the club's debut season in the Barclays Premier League - succumbing to relegation by the narrowest of margins after the final round of fixtures.

The former Crewe and Real Sociedad man has signed a three-year deal on Wearside to become Sunderland's ninth permanent signing of the summer alongside Keiren Westwood, Sebastian Larsson, Ji Dong-Won, Craig Gardner, Connor Wickham, Wes Brown, John O'Shea and Ahmed Elmohamady, who agreed a three-year deal in June after an initial 12-month loan spell.

Sunderland manager Steve Bruce said: "David was excellent throughout last season, including both games against us, so it's only natural that he caught the attention of a number of top clubs.

"We're delighted that he sees his future at Sunderland. His experience, grit and energy in midfield will be valuable assets to us and we're now looking forward to him joining up with the squad for pre-season training."

O'Shea joins Black Cats

Sunderland have completed the signing of defender John O'Shea from Manchester United.

Black Cats boss Steve Bruce has completed a double raid on champions Manchester United and brought John O'Shea to Sunderland.

The 30 year-old Republic of Ireland international moves to Wearside for an undisclosed fee and has agreed a deal which will keep him at the Stadium of Light until summer 2015.

O'Shea, who becomes Sunderland's eighth permanent senior signing of the summer transfer window, will link up with former Red Devils teammate Wes Brown, who also made the switch from Old Trafford.

Speaking following the completion of his move, O'Shea said: "Once I'd heard reports about the club and the people here, the ambitions and what the manager was all about it was the only place I was going to come to."
