Manchester City coach Attilio Lombardo reveals interest in Napoli trio Edinson Cavani, Marek Hamsik and Ezequiel Lavezzi

The Eastlands coach hopes the club will discuss a move for either one of the three players with the Serie A side, and cools talk of a switch to City for Udinese’s Alexis Sanchez

Manchester City coach Attilio Lombardo says he hopes the club open talks with Napoli over moves for Edinson Cavani, Marek Hamsik and Ezequiel Lavezzi.

The trio have all been linked with moves away from Italy after an impressive season in Serie A, although Cavani looks unlikely to leave having only joined the club on a permanent deal last month.

Lombardo, who also admits that Napoli are unlikely to allow Hamsik and Cavani to leave at the same time, believes the trio would be successful at any club.
"I hope there can be some negotiations between Napoli and Manchester City, especially as I'd see one of their three forwards would really suit City," Lombardo told Radio Crc.

"The trio of Edinson Cavani, Marek Hamsik and Ezequiel Lavezzi would bring success to any club.

"I doubt they'd release Hamsik and Cavani at the same time.

"Manchester City are tracking many players because this club wants to do well, to win and to become the most important side in Europe."

Lombardo also revealed that although the club were tracking Udinese's Alexis Sanchez, a deal is unlikely and the Chilean is set to stay in Italy.

The forward has been linked with a move away from Udinese, but with Inter and Juventus also reported to be interested, Lombardo expects the player to stay in Serie A.

"It's true we did track Sanchez, but I think this player is more suited to an Italian club right now," he said.

阿古路希望留係西班牙

Atletico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero insists he would "prefer to stay in Spain" when he departs the Vicente Calderon, leaving Barcelona and Real Madrid as the clear favourites to sign him.

Aguero, 23, revealed last week that he is ready to move on after five years with the Rojiblancos, and city rivals Real emerged as early frontrunners for his signature.

But Atletico were quick to dampen speculation about a controversial cross-Madrid move, claiming Real had not expressed an interest in 'Kun' and that Juventus were the only club to have openly made contact.

"He (Real president Florentino Perez) has told me he has no intention of signing Aguero and I do not doubt him," general manager Miguel Angel Marin said. "Firstly due to the good relationship we have personally and secondly due to the clubs' relationship."

Marin later added: "The only side which I have talked to are Juventus. I have been contacted by the Italian club, they have sent me a letter in which they have asked to negotiate for the player.

"Last Monday we received a fax from the Bianconeri. They showed their interest, but we will only let Aguero go for ?45m - and not a euro less."

However, Aguero has now insisted that he would like to stay in La Liga and, with Barcelona reportedly in discussions about signing Villarreal's Giuseppe Rossi, the Bernabeu appears to remain the Argentina intenational's likeliest destination.

"The English league is good, but I'd prefer to stay in Spain," Aguero told Argentinian broadcaster TyC sports.

Peter's perfect: Wenger wings it with £4m bid for West Brom striker Odemwingie

By Sami Mokbel

Last updated at 8:11 AM on 3rd June 2011

Arsenal are weighing up a shock cut-price £4million move for West Bromwich striker Peter Odemwingie.

Arsene Wenger wants to bolster his attacking options to take the goalscoring burden off Robin van Persie - who yesterday renewed his attack on Chelsea players for what he views as their attempts to intimidate officials.

Odemwingie caught Wenger’s eye during both Premier League clashes against the Baggies last season, which saw the Midlands club take four points - including a 3-2 win at the Emirates.

Odemwingie only has a year left on his current Baggies deal, though manager Roy Hodgson is desperate for the striker to commit to a long-term contract. But the lure of Champions League football could be too much for Odemwingie to resist.

Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema, Lille’s Gervinho and Porto’s Radamel Falcao are also in Wenger’s thoughts, but a move for Odemwingie would be more cost-effective, freeing up funds to strengthen other areas.

Wenger will step up plans to reshape his squad by going on a scouting mission to South America this month. He will watch a number of international friendlies leading up to the Copa America, which kicks off on July 1.

Arsenal are already on the trail of left-footed Argentine midfielder Ricardo Alvarez, who plays for Velez Sarsfield and Wenger’s chief scout Steve Rowley has been dispatched on a spying assignment to South America.

Meanwhile, Van Persie has blasted Chelsea and Spain players for what he perceives as their constant complaining to referees.

The Holland international said in March: ‘Barcelona’s players have the habit of whinging about everything. In England, Chelsea’s players behave in the same way.’
And he told Dutch TV: ‘They [Spain players] always go up to referees in an attempt to get an opponent booked. They are trying to screw colleagues.

‘That kind of behaviour really annoys me. If you want to witness a lot of complaints, you should just go the bakery or something. There’s always people nagging there as well.

‘Chelsea players are always bitching against the referees. Just shut the f*** up and focus on playing football.’

Van Persie’s team-mate Alex Song is considering his international future after being booted out of Cameroon’s squad to face Senegal over a bust-up with skipper Samuel Eto’o.

The midfielder had only just returned to the international fold after a series of snubs in the aftermath of Cameroon’s disappointing World Cup 2010 campaign.

He has a fractious relationship with Eto’o and their feud came to a head this week when Song refused to shake the Inter Milan striker’s hand. The pair then had a row when Song sat in a chair Eto’o claimed was reserved for him during a meal, which led to Cameroon manager Javier Clemente expelling the Arsenal player to avoid further disruption.

The Cameroon Football Federation later claimed the Arsenal man had left the camp due to injury.

Sunderland wants Darron Gibson and Wes Brown in double swoop on Manchester United

By Sportsmail Reporter

Last updated at 8:33 AM on 3rd June 2011

Sunderland manager Steve Bruce wants to sign Darron Gibson and Wes Brown from his old club Manchester United this summer.

Bruce has identified Gibson as the man to replace Jordan Henderson, who will join Liverpool if they can compromise on a fee with Sunderland.

Gibson, 23, is on the fringes of United’s squad but the Irishman has failed to command a regular first-team place and is one of a number of players who will be allowed to leave Old Trafford this summer if the right offer comes in. United value him at around £6million.

Brown is another after falling behind Chris Smalling, Jonny Evans and the Da Silva twins in the pecking order to play in central defence or at right-back.

The 31-year-old former England defender has been at United since 1992, but his career has stalled and Bruce is ready to offer him a fresh start at the Stadium of Light.

Tottenham fail in £10.5m bid for Internacional striker Damiao as Drogba pursuit runs cold

By Ashley Gray

Last updated at 8:10 AM on 3rd June 2011

Tottenham have had an opening bid of £10.5million for Internacional striker Leandro Damiao rejected.

The highly-rated Brazilian is valued at £17m despite only having one full cap and club president Giovanni Luigi is determined to hold onto the player until the end of the year when the Brazilian season finishes.

He said: 'It was the first concrete offer we've had. I said I didn't want to sell now, but I think they will come back with another attempt. I warned that he'll only leave at the end of the year and for more money.'

Damiao, 21, is also wanted by Benfica, Roma and Barcelona.

Tottenham remain keen on Chelsea's Didier Drogba also but the Ivory Coast striker wants to see who the next coach is before making a decision on his future.

Tottenham's midfielder Steven Pienaar is out of South Africa's international with Egypt at the weekend after injuring his knee in training. The 29-year-old, who is also due to have groin surgery, went for a scan on the inside of his right knee but no serious damage was detected.

EXCLUSIVE: £30m Kop swoop! Liverpool near deal for Jones and Henderson

By Chris Wheeler

Last updated at 10:16 AM on 3rd June 2011

Liverpool are closing in on a £30million swoop for two of England’s hottest prospects — Blackburn defender Phil Jones and Sunderland midfielder Jordan Henderson.

The Anfield giants increased their initial offer of £13m for Henderson, 20, to £15m yesterday and are hopeful Sunderland will compromise on their asking price of £18m.

Liverpool are also ready to make a formal offer to Blackburn for £15m-rated Jones, though they face a battle for him with Arsenal and Tottenham.

The moves are part of Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish’s strategy of buying top English talent, having signed striker Andy Carroll in January for £35m from Newcastle.

The club have also asked about the availability of midfielder Lee Cattermole at the Stadium of Light.

Henderson and Jones are in Spain with the England Under 21 party preparing for this month’s European Championship in Denmark. Stuart Pearce’s squad fly home tonight before travelling to Southampton for Sunday’s friendly against Norway, but Henderson is on stand-by to travel to Merseyside and complete the deal as soon as the two clubs agree a fee.

Liverpool’s move for Jones will alert Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, who has made it known he wants to build his back four around the 19-year-old. Wenger was prepared to wait a year while signing Jones’s Blackburn team-mate Chris Samba now.

That deal is advanced but Liverpool’s move may force Wenger to rethink his plans for Jones, who has impressed in the centre of defence and midfield since making his Premier League debut against Chelsea in March last year. He signed a five-year deal that May and extended it by 12 months in February.

Blackburn would prefer to keep their prize asset and sell Samba but accept that they will not be able to stand in Jones’s way if the right offer comes in.

Dalglish has already signalled a change of direction at Anfield since succeeding Roy Hodgson by handing first-team opportunities to 17-year-old Jack Robinson, 18-year-old John Flanagan and 21-year-old Martin Kelly, and giving a new deal to Jay Spearing, 22.

West Brom keen to re-sign Manchester United stopper Tomasz Kuszczak

By Sportsmail Reporter

Last updated at 9:55 AM on 3rd June 2011

West Brom are considering a £3million offer their former goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak.

The 29-year-old Poland international is surplus to requirements at Manchester United and Roy Hodgson wants a new keeper after missing out on Brad Friedel.

West Brom are also hopeful of beating Sunderland to Blackpool's David Vaughan, 28.

Palacios' Napoli switch on ice as Italian club haggle with Tottenham over fee

By Sportsmail Reporter

Last updated at 1:23 AM on 3rd June 2011

Wilson Palacios' mooted switch to Napoli is on the rocks after the Italian club admitted negotiations have stalled because of the potential transfer fee.

The 26-year-old midfielder had been close to a move to the Serie A outfit after slipping down the pecking order at White Hart Lane last season.

Napoli have confirmed their interest in the Honduras international but sporting director Riccardo Bigon claims they are not happy with the amount of money Spurs are demanding.

'Wilson interests us a lot,' Bigon told Tutto Napoli. 'But negotiations have stalled for now.

'Tottenham are ready to sell him outright, but they want a lot of money in order to let him go.

'I've spoken with his agent as the player is currently on holiday.

'Everything should become clearer in seven to 10 days' time. Let's wait and see what happens.'

It is believed the Italian side are offering around £10million, but Spurs paid Wigan £12million for him in 2009 and they want to recoup that.

Hahnemann 不獲狼隊續約

Mick McCarthy has praised Marcus Hahnemann after confirming Wolves will not offer the goalkeeper a new deal.

Hahnemann joined Wolves two years ago from Reading and started the season as the club's first choice in the Barclays Premier League.

However, he lost his place to Wayne Hennessey in November and has now been allowed to leave Molineux after the club avoided relegation.

"Marcus has been fantastic for us over the last two seasons - both in his performances on the pitch and his influence off it," McCarthy told the club's official website.

"When we brought him in we knew we were getting a very good experienced keeper to push Wayne Hennessey all the way for the first-team shirt.

"And when the time came for him to get his opportunity he made the most of it and played a key role in helping us stay in the Premier League.

"Even when he then lost his place to Wayne last season, he remained supportive and professional and helped in Wayne's development both as a player and as a person.

"With his enthusiasm and personality, not to mention some very different hobbies and interests, Marcus was a great character to have around the place and hugely influential in the dressing room.

"It was a pleasure for all of us to have him in the squad for the last two years, and we wish him all the very best for the next stage of his career."
