Diego Closing In on Real Madrid Move
Diego is set to agree to join Real Madrid next term and now the Spanish club must negotiate a transfer fee with Werder Bremen if they want to complete the deal.
The Brazilian midfielder looks set to leave the Bundesliga club as he is no longer seen as the idol he once was and is said to have agreed to move, according to Welt am Sonntag.
Werder will demand a fee in the region of ?30m for the player that they bought for just ?5m from Porto in 2005, but Madrid are expected to agree to that.
According to the report, Diego has begun to feel uncomfortable at Werder and would like a change as he has never truly settled in Germany or taken to the food.
The most important reason, however, is that his circumstances have changed from where he was a year ago as the team have fallen away from the top places i the league.
"We had high hopes this season and it is a bitter feeling not to obtain any of it," the player was quoted as saying recently.
After Werder's UEFA Cup exit against Rangers, even sporting director Klaus Allofs said that this time Diego had to share his part in the defeat.
Many of Europe's most affluent clubs are said to be interested in the midfielder, but he is believed to want to go to Madrid next.
