GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 TO REPORTEDLY SHOOT IN 2020Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is due to start filming in 2020, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The publication's sources claim that five actors - presumably Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper - are set to reunite for a 2020 shoot. This would mean that the filming of Guardians Vol. 3 will happen just a few months after shooting director James Gunn’s other project, The Suicide Squad, which is due for release in August 2021.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was due to film in 2019, but Disney pulled James Gunn from the project after controversy arose regarding some offensive tweets the director once posted on Twitter. Gunn has now been re-attached to direct, and the script is already written, allowing the project to move ahead fairly quickly.
While Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is widely known about, Marvel Studios has yet to officially announce its place in the MCU phase structure, and so there is no official release date so far. Filming for Guardians Vol. 2 was conducted in 2016, and the movie released in 2017, so there is a possibility Guardians Vol. 3 could appear in 2021.
However, with Gunn apparently running two large superhero films almost in parallel, there’s chance that his commitments to The Suicide Squad may slow down progress on Guardians Vol. 3. We’ll just have to wait for Marvel Studios to announce its plans, presumably some time after phase 3 of the MCU concludes with Spider-Man: Far From Home on July 2.
