Manchester City end interest in Porto duo Fernando and Mangala

Manchester City have ended their transfer interest in Porto duo Fernando and Eliaquim Mangala.

French centre-back Mangala has a buy-out clause of £37.8m in his contract while his midfield team-mate Fernando would have cost in the region of £7m.

But both moves now appear to be off, with City boss Manuel Pellegrini confirming the reasons would be made clear after the transfer window has closed.

"For the moment, there is no news," he said. "Tomorrow (Saturday) everyone will know what has happened.

"Tomorrow you will know what happened. It's the same thing (for players leaving).

"There is a lot of business but no news."

It was believed that Javi Garcia and Marcos Lopes could have been used as makeweights as part of the deal.

Had the Mangala transfer gone ahead, it might have paved the way for Joleon Lescott to leave City, with West Ham interested in signing the England international.
