Bolton defender Gary Cahill is in London for a medical at Chelsea on Saturday, BBC Sport understands.

It is believed the England centre-back has already agreed personal terms.

Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas had earlier said he was confident the deal, reportedly worth about £7m, would be completed "this week".

Sky Sports sources understand Queens Park Rangers have agreed a fee for Chelsea defender Alex.

New Loftus Road boss Mark Hughes immediately targeted the Brazilian following his appointment earlier in January and is now closer to getting his man.

Alex wants out of Chelsea and in December the centre-back had a transfer request accepted by the club.

Andre Villas-Boas is aiming to remodel his squad and bring down the average age to mean the 29-year-old centre-back does not feature in his plans.

Sky sources reported on Friday evening that QPR had made an improved bid to Chelsea after making a first offer at the beginning of January and that has now been accepted.
