The Brooklyn Nets reached a verbal commitment with swingman Gerald Wallace on a four-year deal worth $40 million, according to sources close to the process.

The Nets have been openly confident in their ability to re-sign Wallace, who opted out of the final year of his contract last month with the intent of staying with the Nets.

No new contracts in the NBA can be officially signed until July 11, but sources told ESPN.com that Wallace — originally expected to land a three-year deal worth $24 million — will instead land the four-year deal.

The Houston Rockets have reached a verbal agreement with Chicago Bulls restricted free agent Omer Asik on a three-year deal worth $25.1 million, according to sources close to the talks.

Asik can't formally sign the deal until July 11, which is the first day new players can sign NBA contracts for the 2012-13 season.

The Bulls will then have three days to decide whether to match the offer or let Asik go.

Lakers, Nets, Rockets discuss potential Dwight Howard trade with Magic

The Los Angeles Lakers and Orlando Magic have had preliminary contact about a possible deal for All-Star center Dwight Howard, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Orlando officials are willing to discuss trades for Howard, and the Lakers have been one of the teams in touch with them over the weekend, sources said. The Brooklyn Nets and Houston Rockets have also talked to Magic officials, sources said.

Trail Blazers, restricted free agent center Roy Hibbert reach verbal agreement on contract

After living through five injured-riddled Greg Oden seasons, the Trail Blazers have finally found their franchise center.

The team on Sunday reached a verbal agreement on a multi-year contract with restricted free agent Roy Hibbert, widely regarded as the top center prospect on the market.

General manager Neil Olshey met with Hibbert’s representatives after free agency opened at 9:01 p.m. Portland time Saturday night and, according to reports from SI.com and CBSSports.com, offered Hibbert a maximum four-year, $58 million contract. Olshey refused to discuss contract specifics Sunday morning, but confirmed the team was “engaged in negotiations” with the prized free agent center.

“We intend to enter into an offer sheet once the moratorium period ends,” Olshey told The Oregonian in an e-mail.

Nets, Hawks Discussing Joe Johnson Trade

The Nets and Hawks are discussing a trade centered around Joe Johnson, according to sources.

Brooklyn would pair Johnson with a re-signed Deron Williams.

With no deal is close to completion, sources say the teams are discussing trade on multiple fronts.

Trading for Johnson would likely eliminate the Nets from their pursuit of Howard.

For Atlanta, trading Johnson would effectively be a salary dump of his $90 million over the next four years.

The Nets would have to piece together several contracts, including those of Jordan Farmar, who opted into the final $4.2 million year of his deal on Saturday, Anthony Morrow, Johan Petro and a sign-and-trade with one of the Nets' free agents to make the exchange of salaries work for Johnson’s contract.

C.J. Miles has already been contacted by several #NBA teams, source says, and Mavericks have sincere interest in signing him.

Clippers in Advanced Talks With Crawford

The Los Angeles Clippers are in advanced talks with unrestricted free agent Jamal Crawford, according to sources close to the situation.

The Clippers are aggressively pursuing Crawford, and are hoping to fly the 32-year-old guard out to Los Angeles later this week for a face-to-face meeting. No deal is imminent, but the talks are ongoing.

Crawford has also drawn interest from the Boston Celtics, Minnesota Timberwolves, Phoenix Suns, Philadelphia 76ers and Indiana Pacers. All six teams contacted Crawford last night. Crawford opted out of the final year of his contract with the Portland Trail Blazers last Wednesday. Last season, Crawford averaged 14.0 points in 60 games with the Trail Blazers.
