UNITED MUST PAY SENNA PRICE
Manchester United appear to be closing in on the capture of Villarreal midfielder Marcos Senna.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has already admitted an interest in Senna, the
Brazilian-born star who was part of Spain's World Cup squad, and has spoken confidently about being able to unveil at least one more new signing at some stage this week.
Villarreal director Jose Manuel Llaneza has now confirmed contact was made by the Red Devils last week and admitted a deal will be done providing Ferguson meets the Spanish side's asking price.
"Manchester rang us at the end of last week and asked us if we were prepared to sit down and negotiate,'' Villarreal director Jose Manuel Llaneza told El Mundo Deportivo.
"If the offer is positive for everyone, then the club will be happy to agree
to Marcos leaving.
"If there is no deal then there will be no problem with him staying at the
club.''
Although they reached the Champions League semi-finals last term, accounting for United along the way, Villarreal will not play in Europe this season after suffering a shock Intertoto Cup defeat to Maribor last month.
United will be even more keen to do a deal given the ankle ligament injury
suffered by Ferguson's only other summer recruit, ?8.6million Michael Carrick, which will rule the England man out for at least three weeks.
