Rolando happy with Chelsea link

Defender would take move to link-up with former boss

Porto defender Rolando admits he would love to join his former boss Andre Villas-Boas at Chelsea.

The 25-year-old, who has previously been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League, is said to be under Villas-Boas'sconsideration.

With Alex said to be attracting interesting from Bayern Munich,Rolando has been suggested as a possible signing along with the likes of Gary Cahill and Scott Dann.
And Rolando insists he would be more than happy to move to Chelsea.
"Andre Villas-Boas has my number. If he is interested, he know that I loved working with him," Rolando said from Porto's pre-season training camp in Germany.

"Have been in Porto for three years now and now could be a good time to leave, I just want to continue to win, whether here or somewhere else.

"There are clubs in Europe who Porto cannot compete with, financially, and if an offer comes in, we will see."

Big names in for Bastos

Brazilian midfielder generating plenty of interest

Michel Bastos' agent has confirmed that a number of Europe's top clubs have expressed an interest in his client.

The Lyon midfielder has been linked with a move away from Ligue 1 for some time, with Serie A giants Juventus having led the chase.

Juve remain in contention to secure the Brazilian's signature, but they now face stiff competition from elsewhere.

Chelsea, Inter Milan, Barcelona, Liverpool and Tottenham are all believed to be monitoring Bastos' situation.

Gunners tie up Gervinho
Ivorian ties up move


Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed the signing of Gervinho from Lille.

The Ivorian forward has been locked in talks with the Gunners over the past week after the two clubs agreed a deal earlier in the month.

Now he has finalised his move from the French champions, according to Wenger, who revealed the news as Arsenal set down in Malaysia ahead of their Asian tour.

Gervinho did not travel with Arsenal as part of their initial group and it remains to be seen whether he will link up with the squad.

Gervinho is Arsenal's second signing of the summer following on from the capture of youngster Carl Jenkinson.

Sky Sports News sources understand Swansea are closing in on a £1.5million swoop for Newcastle winger Wayne Routledge.

The 26-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from St James' Park this summer after spending the second half of last season on loan at old employers Queens Park Rangers.

Former England Under-21 international Routledge helped Rangers to Premier League promotion, prompting talk of a permanent move, but no such switch has materialised.

He has also been linked with a host of Championship clubs, including Cardiff, Leicester and Birmingham, while Nottingham Forest reportedly made an approach for his services last week.

However, it now appears top-flight newcomers Swansea are leading the race for his signature as they prepare for their debut season in the Premier League.

Swans boss Brendan Rodgers has stated his desire to further strengthen his squad after already making additions this summer.

The manager has wrapped up deals for Danny Graham from Watford and Steven Caulker on loan from Tottenham, while terms have been agreed with Jose Moreira.

Routledge is open to the prospect of a summer move away from Tyneside, especially as Toon boss Alan Pardew has recruited further midfield cover during the transfer window.

Speculation:

Reports in the local media are suggesting Wolves are closing in on a deal for Roger Johnson after opening talks with the Birmingham City defender. A £7million fee is understood to have been agreed between the two clubs and Johnson is reported to be meeting Wolves officials today.

No Gunners bid for Stew - Villa

Aston Villa are not understood to have received any bid from Arsenal for winger Stewart Downing and remain determined to keep the player.

The Gunners are reported to have joined Liverpool in the race to sign Downing, who made it clear when on England duty last month that he will not be signing a new contract with Villa.

But sources close to the Midlands club insist any possible interest has not been firmed up so far and new manager Alex McLeish wants to keep the former Middlesbrough player.

Villa have already rejected bids of £12million and £15million from Liverpool for Downing, who has two years remaining of his current contract.

If Villa find they are eventually left with no option but to sell Downing, then they will hold out for their original valuation of £19million.

Wigan's Charles N'Zogbia has been linked with Villa as a possible replacement should Downing leave.

McLeish came close to signing N'Zogbia last summer when in charge of Birmingham before a change in his wage demands ended hopes of the deal being completed.

Villa are also monitoring West Ham midfielder Scott Parker, although no bid has been made.

But the club finally expect the signing of Manchester City goalkeeper Shay Given to go through at some stage this week in a £3.5million deal.

Somogyi Signs

Fulham Football Club can confirm that Hungarian goalkeeper Csaba Somogyi has signed a one-year deal with the Club ahead of the 2011/12 campaign.

The 26-year-old stopper is Martin Jol’s first signing as Fulham manager, with the Club now boasting an impressive array of talent in the goalkeeper department.

Somogyi previously played for Hungarian side Rakospalotai EAC and impressed Manager Martin Jol during a trial period at his former club Ajax in 2010.

Following a successful trial period at Fulham last week, the six-foot-three inch keeper put pen-to-paper on a deal as a free agent with Fulham on Monday morning. The Club has the option to extend Somogyi’s deal at the Cottage by a further year until 2013.
