QPR have agreed a deal for left-back Taye Taiwo with AC Milan as new manager Mark Hughes closes on his first signing at Loftus Road.

Taiwo has been heavily linked with a Premier League move and it appears QPR have won the race for his signature, with completion of the deal subject to a work permit.

The West Londoners confirmed he is "very close" to signing on their official phone-in show, London Call-In, but said they are "waiting for everything to be put into place before we make an official announcement".

Reports suggest Taiwo will pen a six-month loan deal and he was pictured with manager Mark Hughes on Twitter on Thursday afternoon.

Good news

QPR midifelder Joey Barton has also been on the social network this evening, posting: "Taye Taiwo from AC Milan signing for the Rs.

"Was very good when I [have] seen him for Marseille. Good news. First of many, fingers crossed."

Taiwo joined Milan last summer from Marseille, making four Serie A starts for the Rossoneri this season and three in the UEFA Champions League.

He had been linked with Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United ahead of his summer move, while Arsenal were thought to be targeting him this month.

Hughes is keen to strengthen his backline after succeeding Neil Warnock as manager, with Chelsea stopper Alex and Manchester City's Nedum Onuoha also on his radar.

Los Angeles Galaxy chief Tim Leiweke has confirmed to Sky Sports News his admiration for Frank Lampard.

But Leiweke, president of Galaxy owners AEG, refused to confirm they had made a move for the Chelsea midfielder.

Leiweke confirmed that Galaxy were looking at their options for future Designated Player slots.

In Major League Soccer, clubs can sign up to three Designated Players which are not included in the otherwise strict wage structure that operates throughout American football.

LA currently have new signed David Beckham, Robbie Keane and Landon Donovan.

Great player

"I am a fan of Frank's, I think he is a great player. When I think of Chelsea, I think of Frank Lampard," Leiweke told Sky Sports News.

"You should ask him, it took us two years to get David here the first time, we are working on the next DP.

"We are going to continue to work on the next DP and there are about half-a-dozen guys we have a good relationship with but first we have to have a lot and we don't have a slot.

"I am a big fan of his."

Beckham backed Lampard's link with the Galaxy, adding: "If he does decide to walk away from Chelsea, then of course which team would not want him?

"The owners are very persuasive, so of course there is a chance."

Hannover eye Diouf deal
German outfit keen on Manchester United striker

Bundesliga outfit Hannover have confirmed their interest in signing Manchester United striker Mame Biram Diouf.

The 24-year-old is on the fringes of the first-team at Old Trafford and has never really made an impact since his move from Molde.

He has featured for United in the Carling Cup this season, but has been linked with a move away and now Hannover have admitted they would like him.

When asked about a possible deal, Hannover general manager Jorg Schmadtke said: "That is true.

"He is fast, resolute and runs straight at goal.

"We have been after him already some time ago, unfortunately he then moved from Molde to Manchester United."

Schmadtke added: "Both clubs, his agent and the player are in talks."

Queens Park Rangers are making an improved £3.5million bid for Tottenham midfielder Steven Pienaar and want his South Africa teammate Daylon Claasen from Lierse.

Manager Mark Hughes is racing against the clock to push deals through in time with his squad in need of five or six additions.

Hughes is close to a deal for Manchester City's Nedum Onuoha, wants Alex from Chelsea and has Fulham's Bobby Zamora plus Tottenham's Heurelho Gomes among his targets.

Hughes sees Pienaar as key in the battle for survival as a player who can easily retain possession. Claasen, 21, is in the same mould as Pienaar.

A former Ajax academy graduate, he is also attracting interest from Celtic and Rangers. He is available for around £700,000 and could prove a good investment. QPR are also monitoring Genk midfielder Khaleem Hyland, 22.

Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has launched a £20million bid for Shakhtar Donetsk's Brazilian midfielder Willian.

The skilful 23-year-old shot to prominence last year with a series of outstanding performances which guided Shakhtar to the knockout stages of the Champions League for the first time in the club's history.

Willian, who can play on the left of midfield or behind the strikers, was pivotal in their defeat of Roma - scoring twice as Shakhtar ran out 6-2 aggregate winners over the bewildered Italians.

His virtuoso display made him a prime target for Arsenal. Manager Arsene Wenger tried to sign him last summer but was put off by Shakhtar's asking price.

However, Chelsea manager Villas-Boas believes Willian's extra pace and flair is worth paying for and hopes Roman Abramovich can strike a deal. Ukrainian club Shakhtar will not sell easily as they value the Brazil international, full name Willian Borges da Silva, at £30m.

But Abramovich is hopeful he can reach a compromise and give Chelsea a fresh injection of flair to go alongside Juan Mata. The move could put an end to negotiations for Lille's Eden Hazard.
