World Cup: Norwich goalkeeper John Ruddy left out of England squad, say Sky sources Norwich goalkeeper John Ruddy has been left out of England's World Cup squad, according to Sky sources. The 27-year-old was in contention to be named by Roy Hodgson in the provisional 23-man group
but looks
set to miss out as the England boss opts for Celtic goalkeeper Fraser Forster instead. Forster, who won his first cap last November, will supplement first-choice Joe Hart and his deputy Ben Foster.
It will come as a major disappointment to Ruddy, who had hoped to be part of the squad that will prepare to face Peru in a friendly at Wembley on May 30.
Following his club's final Premier League game against Arsenal on Sunday,
Ruddy told Sky Sports: "I'm not sure if I'm in there - I'll play that by ear. "It would certainly be a bitter-sweet moment if it did happen. It's out of my hands though so we'll wait and see for the phone call."
Ruddy, whose one and only cap so far came in August 2012, has produced some fine displays despite Norwich's relegation from the Premier League.
He has kept 11 clean sheets in 38 appearances during his fourth season at Carrow Road, after signing for Norwich from Everton in 2011.
