Tottenham winger Andros Townsend's future remains unclear with Sky sources telling us two offers from Newcastle - one for a loan and another for a permanent transfer - have been rebuffed.

However, talks between both clubs will continue to find a resolution on the structure of any deal. We understand discussions are over whether it's a permanent move or a loan with a view to a permanent.

Townsend hasn't appeared for Tottenham since October but has still been training with the first team and has been playing for their U21 side.

NEWCASTLE TO RETURN FOR TOWNSEND

Newcastle have had two offers turned down by Tottenham for Andros Townsend - one of a permanent transfer and another a loan.

However, according to Sky sources, the permanent offer was for £10.5m - still some way short of Spurs' valuation, which is reported to be £14m.

We do expect, though, that Newcastle will go back with a renewed bid for the England international.

Steve McClaren is closing in on a move for Tottenham outcast Andros Townsend.

Newcastle boss McClaren is pushing hard for a £10m deal and is increasingly confident of getting the deal done in January.

It is understood fresh talks have taken place and Newcastle are hopeful of agreeing a deal.

England winger Townsend, 24, is keen on the switch but Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is holding out for a bigger price.

Townsend knows he has no future at White Hart Lane after falling out of favour with Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino after a bust-up with a fitness coach.

Townsend wants to make the switch to push his claims in Roy Hodgson's England squad for next summer's Euros.

Newcastle have given McClaren big money to spend in January and they are also set to bid for West Brom's Saido Berahino.

But the Berahino deal is far more complicated as the ex-England under-21 striker would prefer a move to London and Tottenham.

West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace is also playing hardball and threatening not to sell in this window even though Berahino has just 18 months left on his contract.

Newcastle are desperate to sign a striker to feed off Townsend's service but, despite being ready to test West Brom's resolve, they know the Berahino deal could become a long running saga.

Interest in completing the deal to take Andros Townsend to Newcastle has cooled, according to Sky sources.

We understand that is down to Tottenham's asking price. Newcastle have had both a loan offer and a £10.5m bid rejected in this window.

It was thought talks would resume but as it stands, there is stalemate. There are eight days to resurrect the deal - with Watford monitoring developments.
