Everton make Newcastle's Georginio Wijnaldum summer transfer target

Everton have highlighted Newcastle midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum as one of their key transfer targets before the start of the new season.

The club's transfer committee met earlier this week and pinpointed the 25-year old as a vital part of Ronald Koeman's new-look midfield.

It is understood Everton have made tentative inquiries to Wijnaldum's representatives regarding the player's situation at St James' Park.

Koeman was reportedly keen to sign the Dutch international when manager of Southampton.

Publicly, Newcastle say none of their senior players are for sale as they battle to return to the Premier League at the first attempt.

However Sky Sports News HQ understands that bids in excess of £25m would land the midfielder, who cost Newcastle £14.5m just 12 months ago.

Newcastle yet to receive bid for £27m Gini Wijnaldum

Newcastle will demand £27m for Georginio Wijnaldum but are yet to receive a single bid, according to Sky sources.

Wijnaldum is a summer target for Everton, while Tottenham have been widely linked with a move for the Dutch midfielder, who cost Newcastle £14.5m a year ago.

But Sky Sports News HQ understands there has been no official approach either for Wijnaldum or Moussa Sissoko, who has a £35m price tag after impressing for France at Euro 2016.

Rafa Benitez insists Sissoko is not for sale, and the Newcastle boss has taken Wijnaldum on the club's pre-season tour of Ireland as he prepares for the new Championship campaign.

Newcastle play League of Ireland club Bohemians in Dublin on Saturday in the first of a five-match friendly programme also featuring games in Belgium and at home to Vitesse Arnhem.

Their Championship season begins with a trip to Fulham on August 5, live on Sky Sports.

Reds are ready to pursue a deal for the Holland international

Liverpool will have to pay at least £25million to sign Newcastle United midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.

The Reds are ready to pursue a deal for the Holland international this week after being frustrated in their attempts to land Udinese's Piotr Zielinski , who is expected to join AC Milan.

However, the Championship outfit have made it clear that Wijnaldum won't be allowed to leave cheaply and want at least £25million.

Newcastle paid £14.5million to sign him from PSV Eindhoven a year ago and intend to make a significant profit on that investment.

Wijnaldum, who scored 11 goals last season, has attracted interest from a host of Premier League clubs including Tottenham and looks set to leave St James' Park.

Jurgen Klopp has been keen to bolster his midfield options all summer.

Trying to agree a deal with Udinese for Zielinski proved problematic, while fellow target Mahmoud Dahoud now looks likely to stay at Borussia Monchengladbach for the coming season.
