Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is unlikely to play again before November.The England international underwent knee surgery earlier this month after suffering ligament damage in the Champions League semi-final win against Roma.
The operation was a success and Oxlade-Chamberlain, who is currently on crutches, has started his rehabilitation programme at Melwood.
Liverpool have been reluctant to put a time frame on the 24-year-old's potential return as players recover from that kind of injury at different rates.
Initially, there was hope that Oxlade-Chamberlain would be fit for the start of the 2018/19 season, but the ECHO understands that following the surgery six months out is currently viewed as the best case scenario.
That would leave Jurgen Klopp without Oxlade-Chamberlain until around November time.Oxlade-Chamberlain's impressive debut season for Liverpool was cruelly cut short when he was stretchered off in agony at Anfield on April 24.
The injury also wrecked his hopes of featuring for England in June's World Cup finals in Russia.
Oxlade-Chamberlain grew in stature over the course of the campaign – scoring five goals in 42 appearances following his £35million move from Arsenal.
“I cannot believe that this wonderful player and person in such a positive situation helping the team, making such a clear challenge, had this happen to him,” Klopp said.
“I've told him already that we will wait for him like a good wife when a man is in prison.”
Klopp's centre midfield options will be bolstered by the arrival of Naby Keita from RB Leipzig this summer.
However, with Emre Can expected to leave and Oxlade-Chamberlain sidelined, Liverpool will need to further strengthen in that department during the transfer window.
