Real Madrid General Director Jorge Valdano Admits To Contract Talks With Defender Pepe

Real Madrid general director Jorge Valdano says he is optimistic about defender Pepe signing a contract extension soon.

Real Madrid general director Jorge Valdano has revealed the Spanish club have been in contract extension discussions with defender Pepe for quite some time.

Valdano is hopeful the 28-year-old will put pen to paper soon.

"The negotiations with Pepe are going well," the director was reported as saying to Sky Sports. "He is an excellent person and one of the best central defenders in the world.

"It is true that we have been talking for some time, but I am confident that he will choose to stay on at Real Madrid."

Pepe has been at the Blancos since 2007, making more than 100 appearances for the club.

Adebayour想留效皇馬唔想返曼城

Emmanuel Adebayor wants to secure a full transfer to Real Madrid after his loan move comes to an end in the summer.

Adebayor joined Real on loan from Manchester City in January, and is enjoying life in La Liga.

He said: "I shall do everything I can to stay on with Real Madrid. No-one can be as happy as I am now. Playing here is a dream come true, and I now feel useful again.

"But I don't see myself succeeding at Real with dreadlocks, so that is why I have had them cut off!

"Give me a contract stating that we shall win the Champions League final 2-0 with both goals by Karim Benzema and I'll sign it straight away!"

Pepe Signs 2016 Real Madrid Contract Extension - Report

Real Madrid defender Pepe has reportedly signed a contract extension until 2016.

Portuguese defender Pepe has agreed terms with La Liga powerhouse Real Madrid over a contract extension until the summer of 2016, Spanish publication Marca reports.

The highly rated centre-back has been in contract talks with Los Blancos for several weeks now and the two sides have finally managed to reach an agreement.

Pepe's previous deal was due to expire in the summer of 2012, but the former Porto star will stay put for four additional years. The centre-back will earn ?4 million per year under the terms of his new deal.

Real Madrid have yet to confirm Pepe's contract renewal on their official website, but general director Jorge Valdano admitted on Sunday that a new deal wasn't far away.

"The negotiations with Pepe are going well," the director was reported as saying to Sky Sports. "He is an excellent person and one of the best central defenders in the world."
