Manchester City's Roberto Mancini hints at Emmanuel Adebayor exit
Italian claims the striker, on loan at Real Madrid, might be allowed to leave and he bemoans Wayne Rooney’s two match ban which rules him out of Saturday’s FA cup semi-final
Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has said that striker Emmanuel Adebayor's future is still undecided, with the player having declared an ambition to join Real Madrid permanently in the summer.
The Togolese striker, who joined Real on load at the end of January, has not impressed at Eastlands and is behind fellow strikers Carlos Tevez, Edin Dzeko and Mario Balotelli in the pecking order.
However, Mancini told reporters that he hopes Adebayor decides to stay at the club after watching the forward score twice in a 4-0 win for the Spanish giants against Tottenham in the Champions League on Tuesday.
"I am happy for him. I am happy that he scored two goals and I hope he will continue to score goals. At the end of the season we will see. If he wants to stay, he can. I am happy for him because Manu is a good player," he said according to Sky Sports.
Mancini went on to express his disappointment that Wayne Rooney, who has received a two-match ban for his four-letter outburst during last weekend’s match at West Ham, will be unable to play for Manchester United in Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final at Wembley.
He said: "We are disappointed. When you play in games like this, it is important that all of the best players play.
"But if he can't play, okay."
When questioned on whether the FA ruling was correct, the City manager answered: “I don't know.
"I think the managers and players here have a lot of respect for the referee and the FA."
Mancini also came to the defence of midfielder Gareth Barry who was called, “a teacher's pet,” by Joey Barton.
Mancini responded by saying: “Joey Barton is a good player but Gareth Barry is a fantastic player.
“I can say only this. It is a situation that is not important to me.”
City go into the semi-final desperate to end a trophy drought which has gone on for 35 years since they beat Newcastle 2-1 to win the League Cup in 1976.
