Center Marc Gasol, Grizzlies agree to four-year dealIt was gigantic news delivered on Twitter directly from the big fella at about 7:30 p.m. Monday: Marc Gasol, the Grizzlies center floating in restricted free agency, announced that he had reached an agreement to rejoin the team.
Just like during last season’s playoff run, Memphis could believe.
Gasol, 26, accepted a four-year deal worth $57.7 million — the maximum the Grizzlies could offer. He’ll be paid a starting salary of $12.9 million with a 7.5 percent raise in each year of the deal. The contract is conventional, meaning there are no player or team options.
“I’m proud to say that we have reached a tentative agreement with my team @memgrizz,” Gasol wrote on Twitter. “Can’t wait to get on the court with all my teammates!”The 7-footer missed the Grizzlies’ first four days of training camp but is expected in town today for a physical and news conference. He should be available to participate in practice by Wednesday.
