Newcastle United NOT in a hurry to name new head coach and won't go down route of old pals actJan 08, 2015 11:32 By Lee Ryder
Newcastle United will not rush when it comes to naming Alan Pardew’s successor.
The Chronicle understands that Newcastle will take as much time as required to identify the right candidate.
Frank De Boer was linked again with the club today, but Newcastle are not thought to have had any contact with the Dutchman at this stage, even if he fits into the club’s current blueprint and is thought to be on the radar.
Whoever comes in next will have to work within the club’s European-style model of a head coach reporting to managing director Lee Charnley and chief scout Graham Carr when it comes to recruitment.
But he will be left to get on with the job on the training ground on a day-to-day basis while preparing and selecting the team.
United want the new head coach to slot into the current structure at the club, taking on players recommended by Carr and Charnley.
However, with Carr and Charnley assigned to find the right man for the job it is also believed that – unlike previous managerial appointments – Mike Ashley will have a hands-off role.
Knee-jerk appointments such as Joe Kinnear or Dennis Wise – who was named director of football in 2008 – are not thought to be on the cards.
And there will be no chance of any old pals act emerging, according to sources on Tyneside.
Ashley has not always been advised well in the past and the club is eager to get the next appointment right for the sake of its long-term future.
United owner Ashley is not actively looking to sell the club despite continued talk that he is prepared to shut shop on Tyneside and focus on Rangers.
