Sports Direct 'pays just £82 into staff pensions'Sports Direct, the sportswear retailer run by Mike Ashley, makes one of the lowest contributions to staff pensions in the FTSE 100 according to new research.
Sports Direct is under growing pressure from politicians about its treatment of staff and Mr Ashley, the owner of Newcastle United, has been called to appear in front of MPs over job losses in Scotland and the company’s use of zero-hours contracts.
The retailer paid just £82 into each employee’s pension on average in 2014, according to research from Banc De Binary, the options trading firm. This compares to an average of £2,920 per employee for the FTSE 100 as a whole.
