West Ham lining up David Moyes to replace Slaven Bilic as coach - source
West Ham plan to sack under-fire coach Slaven Bilic in the next few days and are lining up David Moyes to replace him, a source close to the club told ESPN FC.The Hammers lost to Liverpool 4-1 at the London Stadium on Saturday, with the result set to be the final game in Bilic's tenure, a few months into his third season in charge.
Bilic's future at West Ham has been the subject of constant speculation for several weeks after a disappointing start to the season. The Hammers are languishing in 17th spot, just one point outside the bottom three after winning just two of their opening 11 games this season.
The source said West Ham's hierarchy feel the timing is right to make a change in the hopes that the upcoming international break will give the new manager time to settle in before the Hammers' next game, away to Watford on Nov. 19.Asked after Saturday's defeat if he still had West Ham's backing, Bilic told BT Sport: "It's hard for me to talk about that now."
"I have to talk to the chairman, we are going to discuss this defeat," he said. "It's not the first one, it's the second in a row in home. It is a very difficult situation for me. I always believe in myself, I wouldn't be here otherwise."
He then told the BBC: "The pressure mounts game by game and at this moment it is big. My situation is very difficult, we will see what the club will do."
Saturday's thumping defeat at home was their sixth loss at the London Stadium and second straight after losing 3-0 to Premier League new boys Brighton two weeks ago.
Former Manchester United and Everton boss Moyes has been out of work since leaving Sunderland at the end of last season following their relegation from the Premier League. The 54-year-old enjoyed an 11-year stint at Everton before leaving to take over from Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United in 2013.
Despite his unsuccessful time at United and further unproductive spells at Real Sociedad and Sunderland, he boasts a wealth of managerial experience and is seen as someone who can steady the ship at West Ham, the source said.
