Manchester City are set to spark a three-way auction for Luka Modric after declaring their intent to sign the Tottenham midfielder.

Roberto Mancini has identified the skilful Croat as the creative talent who can help spearhead City's assault on the Champions League and Barclays Premier League title next season and is ready to start the bidding at around £30million.

But the Italian won't have an easy run to Modric as Chelsea and Manchester United are determined to sign the 25-year-old.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, in particular, is an admirer of Modric and will match City all the way in a bidding war that Tottenham will find hard to resist.

Sir Alex Ferguson fears being priced out of the move as he lines up other targets, with City ready to treble Modric's £55,000-a-week salary and Abramovich set on Champions League success.

Harry Redknapp has branded Modric 'irreplaceable' and chairman Daniel Levy insists no stars will be sold this summer as he again fights to qualify for Europe.

But his failure to do so this year has left Spurs vulnerable to bids.

Modric said: 'If there will be an offer which will be good for Tottenham and for me also, then a transfer is of course possible.'

He again failed to commit to the club on Friday, saying: 'I'm a Tottenham player and will be in London on July 7 to begin preparing for the season, but I want to say that transfers could occur later.'

Chelsea and City are also set to go head to head for Palermo's Argentina playmaker Javier Pastore, 21, who said he wanted to quit Italy.

Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini said he had 'given up' on the £40m-rated star.

Arsenal and Spurs are vying for Lille forward Gervinho. Lille general manager Frederic Paquet said: 'We received an offer of ?12m (£10.6m) from Tottenham which was refused.'

The bid has pushed Arsenal into action in the race to sign the 24-year-old.

根據報道，愛華頓希望借用曼城年青守將保耶達，合約為期一個球季。

比利時籍的保耶達上季雖然沒法在曼城陣中爭取到正選位置，但是他在防守上的天份卻沒有被埋沒，而且領隊文仙尼打算將這名年青守將外借到其他球隊，讓他汲取更多上陣的經驗。

報道指出，早前曼城想收購保頓守將加利卡希爾，並打算以保耶達作為交換的條件，但保耶達的父親已代表保耶達拒絕了，愛華頓有見及此，馬上向曼城提出借用保耶達。

保耶達沒有興趣加盟奧雲高利領軍下的保頓，但有可能願意為莫耶斯帶領的拖肥糖效力。

「外間有傳保耶達將會成為交換加利卡希爾的條件，可是保耶達卻不想加盟保頓。愛華頓亦有意邀請他加盟，對於這個選擇，保耶達比較感興趣。」保耶達的父親Bienvenu Boyata在傳媒The Daily Mail的一篇報道上說。

現年20歲的保耶達上季曾經代表過曼城出戰，而且表現惹人好感，所以得到很多英超球會的賞識，預料有不少球隊願意以外借身份借用他，相信保耶達的前途仍然一片光明。

Liverpool struggle to pay off flop Jovanovic with Serb seeking £2.5m to quit

Liverpool are struggling to reach a compromise pay-off agreement with Milan Jovanovic in order to move the Serbian international on.

Anderlecht and FC Brugge have offered Jovanovic, 29, a return to Belgian football but the former Standard Liege striker is not prepared to take a considerable cut on his £60,000-a-week wages.

He is said to be chasing a one-off payment of around £2.5million to leave.

Jovanovic's preference would be to join French champions Lille but there has been no firm offer for the 29-year-old, who is currently recovering from knee surgery.

Former Spain international Senna in talks with newly-promoted Swansea

Swansea have opened talks with former Spain international Marcos Senna.

The Barclays Premier League newcomers are lining up a shock move for the out-of-contract Villarreal midfielder, 34, and his representative Ely Coimbra says a deal could be struck.

Coimbra told the Western Mail: 'Marcos Senna had a previous conversation by phone with Swansea manager Brendan Rodgers and that made him very proud and honoured with the possible interest of Swansea to have him in the squad for the Premier League.

'Marcos is very happy with the possibility and of course keen to play Premier League football, but we want to make very clear that we are right now on preliminary contacts.

'But of course Swansea City can be a very attractive option, since Mr Rodgers explained to Marcos his ideas about his team and part of Swansea's project - which pleased him a lot - and obviously because of the nice and vibrant city of Swansea.'

Senna won 28 caps for Spain and was part of the squad that won the European Championships in 2008.
