SCHURRLE: PERFECT DAYAndre Schurrle was delighted to score his first hat-trick in a Chelsea shirt in our 3-1 victory at Fulham but felt the importance of winning the game far outweighed any personal glory.
Schurrle struck three times in the space of 16 minutes at the beginning of the second half, ensuring Felix Magath's side were left with a mountain to climb.
In what was a real game of two halves, Jose Mourinho's side improved significantly after the break following a less than convincing opening 45 minutes, with
Schurrle confirming the manager did not talk to his players at half-time.'The most important thing was that we won here,' he said. 'We wanted the three points, we needed them and with the three goals for me of course it's the perfect day, I was able to help the team win it.
'The manager said nothing, we just had to go out there and do it and we showed our other face in the second half, we were very aggressive and played well.
'I don't think there was one shot on their goal [in the first half], the aggressiveness was missing. We weren't making runs in behind the defenders, that was much better in the second half and that's why we won.'
Schurrle, whose three goals at Craven Cottage saw him double his tally for the campaign, praised the overall attitude of the players, particularly with the victory having come at the end of a week in which we travelled to Istanbul for a Champions League game against Galatasaray.
'That's the spirit of the team, we have a side who can change the way we did at half-time,' he explained. 'We played very badly in the first half but very well in the second half, that's what we needed.
'We played on Wednesday, it was a very hard game and maybe some players were a little bit tired from the travelling but in the second half we showed our quality.'
The 23-year-old came close to netting a hat-trick during our 3-2 defeat at Stoke City back in December when he hit the bar having already scored a brace.
This time he wasn't to be denied, however, with his personal achievement capping a memorable day.
'When you get your second goal you want to score a third, that's what happened and I got the hat-trick so it's very nice for me,' he said.
