News coming through of what looks like a blow to Manchester United's transfer hopes this summer.

Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger, who Sky sources revealed was on Louis van Gaal's list of summer targets, says he wants to win a fourth straight Bundesliga title in Germany.

The World Cup winner told German broadcasters Sport1: "We've won the Bundesliga for three consecutive times, no team ever has managed to win it four times," he said. "That's a motivation."

Manchester United have made a £28.6m bid for Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos.
The Red Devils believe the 29-year-old wants to leave Real after they failed to offer him an extension to his contract, which expires in 2017.
The Spain international has made 445 appearances for the Bernabeu club.
United manager Louis van Gaal wants defensive reinforcements to help his team improve on last season's fourth-place Premier League finish.
Ramos joined Real from Sevilla in 2005 and scored their injury-time equaliser in their Champions League final victory over Atletico Madrid in 2014.
He has 128 Spain caps and was in the starting line-up as they won Euro 2008, Euro 2012 and the 2010 World Cup.
The Old Trafford club have also been linked with  Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin, 25.
Saints manager Ronald Koeman said he had "doubts" about the Frenchman's future on the south coast, but added the club is yet to receive a "serious bid" from United.
He told Southampton's YouTube channel:  "We will wait, but OK - that's business that normally starts from now."

Manchester United bid £28.6m for Sergio Ramos, according to Sky sources



Manchester United have made a bid of £28.6m for Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos, according to Sky sources.

Sky sources also understand that Ramos has told Madrid he wants to leave the club and join Louis van Gaal's side.

Widespread reports in the British and Spanish media have linked the defender, who has two years left on his contract at the Bernabeu, with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks.

And Sky Sports Spanish football expert Graham Hunter thinks the deal could go through because the player has made it so clear to Madrid that he wants a move away.

"Ramos has told Madrid directly that he is absolutely and completely committed to leaving the club this summer, that he specifically wants them to begin negotiations with Manchester United and that he doesn't want them to negotiate with anybody except Manchester United," Hunter told Sky Sports News HQ.

"People have been questioning Sergio Ramos' intentions, whether Manchester United [are] being used as was the case a couple of summers ago when Cesc Fabregas looked like he might be available to David Moyes.

"But it is a very firm display of intention from Manchester United. In Ramos they want someone who will form part of a firm spine of the team, who knows how to win, who has experience of winning, adding character and talent to what we saw was a regeneration under Louis van Gaal last season.

"Ramos is the focal point of that development and that's why they have made the bid. Real Madrid can be under no illusions that Ramos wants to go to Manchester United and he expects them to comply.

"He feels slighted by the renegotiation of other players' contracts around him when he's coming to that age when this new contract will be the high point of what remains of his career.

"He will also be unhappy with the way the club did not dismiss the story that he had been offered to Barcelona. There is a lack of communication between the single most important man at Madrid in president Florentino Perez and Ramos - a captain, fan fourvouite and leader.

"Ramos is a bold and brave footballer and that is echoed in his character. He believes the bid matches his current value.

"He looks at the project to rebuild Manchester United, to make it great again, and he wants to be part of it."

Manchester United target Sergio Ramos has told Spanish television that he is "not negotiating with anyone" as speculation over his future continues.

The Real Madrid defender, 29, is said to be keen to leave the Bernabeu after 10 years in the Spanish capital, with Old Trafford said to be his destination of choice.

United made a bid of £28.6m last week, according to Sky sources, with Sky Sports' Spanish football expert Graham Hunter reporting that the Spain international had made his desire to leave very clear to Real Madrid, although publicly he has remained coy.

"I am not negotiating with anyone," he told Canal Cuatro, when asked how negotiations were going.

He was subsequently asked if he would therefore be staying with Rafa Benitez's side, to which he simply replied: "All is very well."

Ramos has made 313 league appearance for Los Blancos since joining in 2005, scoring 40 goals during which time the club have won three La Liga titles as well as scoring in the final as they won their tenth European Cup in 2014.

Manchester United transfer target Sergio Ramos will be staying at Real Madrid, according to new Real manager Rafael Benitez.

United made a £28.6m bid for the Spanish international defender in June, with Sky sources understanding Ramos wanted to leave the Bernabeu and head to Old Trafford.

So far this summer United have bought midfielders Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin, right-back Matteo Darmian and winger Memphis Depay, while offloading Robin van Persie and Nani as part of a major overhaul of the squad.

But it now appears they may miss out on one of their top defensive targets.

Ramos travelled with the Madrid squad for their pre-season tour of Australia and Benitez – who was appointed as successor to Carlo Ancelotti six weeks ago – has now confirmed that the centre-back remains "an integral part" of his plans.

"In terms of Sergio Ramos, there's a lot of talk about his situation," Benitez told reporters in Melbourne.

"For me, he is an enormous professional. In person, he applies himself, he does everything that the team and I ask of him.

"And for me, the matter (is that) the president has already commented that he is staying with the club.

"I have spoken to him at length in the summer about his ideas, about his future. I see Sergio as an integral part of our team, he's a winner and that's what we need in our team."
