QPR sound out Bassong
Cameroon international is a target for newly-promoted team

Sky Sports sources understand that QPR have expressed an interest in out-of-favour Tottenham defender Sebastien Bassong.

The 25-year-old was reduced to a bit-part player last season at Tottenham as they excelled in Europe, and just missed out on UEFA Champions League qualification.

Bassong had expressed a desire to leave the club earlier this summer having sought clarification about his future with Harry Redknapp.

Suitable

Indeed, it is believed the club would not stand in his way if a suitable deal for the Cameroon international can be found.

QPR are looking for more defensive options and are presently closing in on a deal for Anton Ferdinand from Sunderland.

And Bassong would also fit that bill as they seek to bring players into their squad with Premier League experience.

Fulham miss out on Boateng
Ghanaian's move to Craven Cottage falls through

Skysports.com understands that Fulham's move for Ghana international Derek Boateng is off.

The Cottagers had identified the midfielder, who currently plies his trade in Ukraine with Dnipro, as a possible transfer target.

Talks were held over a loan deal with a view to a permanent move, but Fulham have been unable to reach an agreement.

Boateng only joined Dnipro earlier this summer when he arrived from Getafe in Spain, and played against Fulham in their recent Europa League tie.

Martin Jol has been busy strengthening his squad before the transfer deadline and on Wednesday completed the signing of Zdenek Grygera from Juventus on an initial one-year contract.

A fee has also been agreed with FC Twente for Costa Rican winger Bryan Ruiz.

Arsenal offer cash for Arteta
Everton ignore money-plus-Bendtner bid

Sky Sports sources understand Everton have turned down Arsenal's offer of Nicklas Bendtner-plus-money for Mikel Arteta.

But, after Everton's initial insistence the Spaniard was not for sale, talks are ongoing and Arsene Wenger is thought to be prepared to make a money-only bid.

Arteta has long been linked with Arsenal and the reports of a £10million move have increased since the sales of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri earlier in August.

Wenger has already signed Brazil defender Andre Santos on transfer deadline day, while a deal has been agreed with Werder Bremen for Per Mertesacker and is awaiting registration.

Experience

Bendtner is at the same time expected to leave Arsenal and his father and agent has been at Stoke discussing a move, but Everton are not interested.

Arteta would prove another key signing for Arsenal, who were demolished 8-2 at Manchester United last weekend, and would be an ideal replacement for Fabregas.

The classy midfielder has been a Premier League star for Everton for several years and, at 29 years of age, would provide the experience Wenger's side are thought to be missing.

Jack Wilshere, who could partner Arteta in Arsenal's midfield, said on Twitter: "... (Sky Sports News presenters) Simon Thomas or Georgie Thompson please give me some good news about Arteta! #ILoveAFC."

Cash-strapped Goodison Park boss David Moyes is likely to be willing to accept money, as he seeks to finance moves for the likes of Denis Stracqualursi.
