Sergio Ramos 'very close' to signing new contract with Real Madrid in blow to Manchester United's hopes for transfer Sergio Ramos is 'very close' to a new deal in Madrid, according to reports

• Perez is expected to hold talks with Ramos to tie him down to a contract

Sergio Ramos is reportedly 'very close' to signing a new contract with Real Madrid ‒ a move which would kill Louis van Gaal's attempts to lure the defender to Manchester United this summer.
Florentino Perez is currently in China, where Ramos and his team-mates are on their pre-season tour, and the club president is to hold talks with the 29-year-old over a new deal.
Spanish newspaper Marca have dedicated their front page on Monday to the transfer saga, and report that Perez will sort out Ramos's future before turning his attention to David de Gea.

United already had a £28million offer for Ramos rejected and insisted the Spain defender must be included in any negotiations over the Madrid-born goalkeeper.
There has been a £200,000-per-week deal on the table for De Gea at United since early July but the Barclays Premier League club have lost hope that the 24-year-old would take up the option.



Van Gaal, however, is prepared to let £35m-rated De Gea leave for free in a year's time rather than succumbing to Real's demands this summer without getting Ramos in return.
United are understood to have previously urged the defender to publicly declare he wants to leave Real in order to force the transfer, but Perez will aim to change his mind during negotiations.

The Spanish international will open contract talks with Real Madrid when he returns to the Spanish capital, reports AS.

The defender, who has been the subject of interest from Manchester United this summer, recently held a meeting with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, club CEO Jose Angel Sanchez and his brother and agent Rene Ramos in China to discuss his situation.

According to AS, during that meeting all four participants decided to end the recent enmity and agreed to open negotiations over a new contract once again when they return to Madrid.
