Liverpool are closing in on the capture of Udinese defender Cristian Zapata after the Colombia international revealed he is on the brink of moving to Anfield.

After missing out on the signing of England Under 21 star Phil Jones to rivals Manchester United, Reds boss Kenny Dalglish has had to move quickly to secure a top defensive target.

Manchester City and Arsenal have both monitored the 24-year-old centre-half, who can also operate at either full-back position, with serious interest while keen German giants Bayern Munich will be left disappointed.

But Zapata, who has two years left to run on his contract with the Serie A side, admitted he in on the verge of joining Liverpool following the forthcoming Copa America in Argentina.

'I do not know what to say, I can say that I am very close to Liverpool,' Zapata told radio station La FM.

'At the end of the Copa America, we will see what happens with my future.

'I have gained experience, but the time has come for me to make the jump to a big team.'

The deal adds to a busy summer already in the transfer market for Dalglish. The Reds boss has secured the arrival of £16million Sunderland midfielder Jordan Henderson and is soon to seal the services of France winger Sylvain Marveaux.

The 25-year-old will arrive from Rennes on a five-year deal believed to worth £60,000 a week.

不過左閘同keeper 暫時完全冇聲氣....

我都知窄窄地, 如果當阿記係中型班, 又如果 法比安 100%冇傷 + 繼續有d 進步, 咁我都勉強收貨既...

不過可唔可以賣左nh3 先?? 第3 keeper 係講 Mannone 呀可........

nh3唔賣真係等幾時

Manchester United's £9million target Raphael Varane will hold talks with Real Madrid on Tuesday amid fears at Old Trafford that he could be swayed by French legend Zinedine Zidane.

United were confident of beating neighbours City, Arsenal, Lyon and Paris Saint-Germain to sign the highly-rated teenage defender from Lens.

But now Real have entered the race for Varane, 18, and are hopeful that Zidane – the former Bernabeu favourite who now acts as an advisor to club president Florentino Perez – will convince his fellow Frenchman to move to Spain instead.

「羅斯仔」經理人: 維拉利爾拒絕了巴塞的報價

維拉利爾前鋒羅斯的經理人Andrea Pastorello直認，「黃色潛艇」拒絕了巴塞隆拿對「羅斯仔」的報價。

巴塞欲簽下該意大利國腳已是人所共知的事實，不過，維拉利爾的態度仍然非常決絕，明顯絕不會以低價輕易放人。

Pastorello表示，他並不知道巴塞隆拿開出的價錢及條件，但肯定那絕對不乎合「黃色潛艇」的要求。

「我們不知道收購計劃的詳細資料，我只知道低於維拉利爾所求。」Pastorello對ONA FM解釋。

「我們已經等了巴塞的回覆達數天，但他們仍然無任何表示，此刻我們除了等以外什麼也做不到。」

上屆西甲及歐聯冠軍的巴塞隆拿雖然看似無敵，但仍然積極於轉會市場上收購新球員以加強球隊實力。他們看上的「羅斯仔」於2007年由曼聯轉投維拉利爾，在近數季成為球隊不可或缺的重要一員。羅斯與「黃色潛艇」的合約上列明，只要有球隊願意支持四千萬歐羅的轉會費，維拉利爾必須「放人」。

Larsson snubs Villa and Arsenal to join Sunderland on a free

Sebastien Larsson has finally agreed to be reunited with Steve Bruce at Sunderland.

The Sweden international had interest from Arsenal, Aston Villa and Newcastle after leaving Birmingham on a free but decided to join Bruce who signed him for Birmingham four years ago.

His father revealed the midfielder shunned an 11th-hour approach from Arsenal and Aston Villa to sign with the Black Cats.

'Steve Bruce has done much to bring about a deal and been very active,' said the player's father, Svante told Sport-Folket.

Wolves ready to test Birmingham's resolve with £7m move for Roger Johnson

Wolves are making a £7million bid for Birmingham defender Roger Johnson and are keen on Swansea goalkeeper Dorus De Vries.

The 28-year-old Johnson is also the subject of interest from Blackburn and Sunderland but Wolves want the 6ft 3ins centre-back to line up with Reading's Matt Mills in a new look defence and that will be reflected in their offer.

Birmingham rate Johnson at £14m but a compromise is likely.

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy also want De Vries, 30, who is a free agent after failing to agree terms yet with Swansea despite their promotion.

Wolves are also interested in Tottenham's Jamie O'Hara and free agent midfielder David Vaughan.

Al Habsi set to complete £4m switch from Bolton to Wigan

Bolton will allow goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi to complete a £4million move to Wigan after Jussi Jaaskelainen agreed a new two-year deal at the Reebok.

Al Habsi spent last season on loan at Wigan but Bolton were reluctant to let their Oman international make the move permanent until Jaaskelainen’s future was resolved.

They have rejected Wigan’s latest bid of £3.75m for Al Habsi but will accept a slightly improved offer.

Bolton are expected to complete a free transfer for Swansea midfielder Darren Pratley and are still weighing up offers for Birmingham trio Cameron Jerome, Roger Johnson and Craig Gardner.
