唉,你話係唔係折墮呀?
而家要搵件咁既 free agent 黎充撐場面……
JEREMIE ALIADIERE THE NEW ANDY MANTHINGS have gone from bad to worse for Newcastle as manager Alan Pardew admitted yesterday that he may have to replace Andy Carroll with out-of-work Jeremie Aliadiere.
The fact the Magpies are even considering offering free agent Aliadiere a short-term playing deal will cause splutterings of disbelief among Toon fans.
Former Middlesbrough and Arsenal striker Aliadiere has not scored for more than a year and has been training in recent weeks at the Riverside to regain fitness following a knee injury. With Shola Ameobi sidelined for up to two months with a fractured cheekbone, Pardew is desperate for striking options, with just three fit forwards – Leon Best, Nile Ranger and Peter Lovenkrands – on his books.
With regard to a move for Aliadiere, Pardew said: “It is a possibility. We have to explore every avenue. We are short on bodies.”
The wisdom of selling Carroll on the last day of the transfer window without bringing in any replacement has already been horribly exposed and, although Newcastle are in mid-table, they are only six points from the relegation zone as they head into tomorrow’s home game against Arsenal.
Magpies skipper Kevin Nolan hopes Newcastle’s remaining strikers, with only a handful of Premier League goals between them, will step up to the plate in the absence of Ameobi and Carroll.
“They are paid by the club to do a job and it’s up to them now,” said Nolan. “They’ve been chomping at the bit and shouting that they want to play games. Well, this is the time. They are all going to get a chance and they have to take it.
“We’ve got a very frail squad which has to be looked after. We have to stick together. Only by doing that can we make sure this club stays where it belongs. It’s disappointing because, a couple of weeks ago, we were looking at mixing it with the big boys.
“We were maybe three or four players off that – but we’ve lost three players in the window and not really brought anyone in.”
