FABREGAS 'OPTIMISTIC' AMID BARCA TALK

Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has declared himself calm and optimistic as speculation rumbles on over his possible return to boyhood club Barcelona.

The Gunners are understood to have rejected one cut-price £27million offer, but Barca are expected to return with an improved deal - offering a player exchange as a sweetener - for the Spain midfielder.

Speaking today at a football campus in Tordera, Spain, the 24-year-old was quoted as saying in AS: "I'm calm and I am optimistic. I have nothing to say and there is nothing to speak of.

"If something happens, it is because it has to happen.

"For my part, I've begun to get in shape, which is what I have to do."

He added: "If a player is on the market it is because the club does not want him. I have no problems."

Arsenal have yet to make any official comment, as they did last summer, on reports regarding a return to the Nou Camp for Fabregas.

The World Cup winner is continually linked with a move back to his boyhood club during every transfer window.

Last summer, the Gunners rejected a £30million offer for their inspirational skipper.

However, with Fabregas appearing more determined to rejoin the club he left as a teenager in 2003, Arsenal are said to be ready to allow the deal to go through, if the European champions improve their £27million bid.

BBC Sport earlier this week quoted a senior Arsenal official as saying: "The offer was made formally in writing to our chief executive (Ivan Gazidis), and we said no straight away."

When asked if the club expected an improved offer this week, the source added: "Possibly yes, and if it's enough then I expect we'll have to sell."

BARCELONA £34M BID FOR CESC FABREGAS

BARCELONA are set to make a new £34million bid that could finally land Cesc Fabregas.
Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas has decided not to speak at a football campus near the Spanish city today as he waits to discover whether his dream return to the Nou Camp will now become reality.
After turning down £27m last week, Arsenal are expecting Barcelona to up the stakes today.
European champions Barca believe the Gunners will do business and Fabregas hopes a deal can be struck before he is due to return to Arsenal for pre-season training next Tuesday.
But aware that Spanish media today planned to ask him about Barca’s bid and whether he will consider refusing to return to England if a fee is not agreed, Fabregas has decided against fielding questions at a campus in Tordera, about 40 miles from Barcelona.
After turning down £27m last week, Arsenal are expecting Barcelona to up the stakes today.
Arsene Wenger, meanwhile, remains confident of completing his first major transfers of the summer before pre-season training and is hoping to tie up deals for both defender Gary Cahill and forward Gervinho.
Bolton could take Spanish defender Ignasi Miquel, 18, on a season-long loan as part of a deal for Cahill and may also be tempted by the offer of England Under-21 midfielder Henri Lansbury.
Out-of-favour Brazilian midfielder Denilson is interesting AC Milan.

Pedroza claims Spurs switch

Young Mexican striker Antonio Pedroza claims a deal has been agreed for him to join Tottenham from Jaguares in his homeland.

The 20-year-old, who has previously had spells on trial with Arsenal and Chelsea, was born in England and still has family in this country.

Pedroza was reported to be in the frame for inclusion in England's squad for the Under-20 World Cup in Colombia this summer, but did not make the 21-man squad.

His contract with Jaguares expired this summer and he elected against signing a new deal when the opportunity of a move to join Harry Redknapp's side emerged.

"I can announce that my transfer to Tottenham has been arranged," Pedroza said.

Dream

"I didn't want to renew my contract with Jaguares because I knew that there was a chance to be transferred to a team in the Premier League.

"I am very happy and satisfied having played for an important team like Jaguares. Now I have the chance to make a dream come true to play in Europe.

"I have spoken with the officials of Jaguares and they have confirmed to me that everything is OK for me to leave and be transferred to Tottenham.

"The only thing that is left to resolve is something related to my journey to England."

Getafe sign AC Milan's Michelangelo Albertazzi on loan

The Italy Under-20 international is looking for regular action in Spain, in order to garner more experience and improve as a footballer

Getafe have announced the signing of AC Milan defender Michelangelo Albertazzi on a season-loan move.

The Italian youngster arrives at Getafe to help fill the void created by the departures of Marcano and Mario, who moved to Olympiakos and Betis, respectively, earlier in the summer.

Albertazzi, 20, has been a regular member in Milan's youth ranks, having featured in 26 matches last season, scoring two goals.

The Italy under-20 international is looking to get games under his belt before having a shot at first-team football at the Serie A champions.

Getafe have not stated whether they have secured a buying option for Albertazzi, who will be presented at the Spanish club during the course of next week.

Gardner agrees Black Cats deal
Midfielder undergoing medical ahead of finalising Sunderland move

Skysports.com understands Craig Gardner is undergoing a medical at Sunderland ahead of signing a three-year contract at the Stadium of Light.

Gardner has been busy finalising a move to Wearside in order to return to the Premier League following Birmingham City's relegation last season.

It was revealed earlier this week that the 24-year-old was due to hold talks with the Black Cats on Wednesday and he has now accepted an offer to join Steve Bruce's side.

Sunderland are understood to be paying in the region of £6million for Gardner, who joined Birmingham from local rivals Aston Villa 18 months ago.
Busy

He was the club's top scorer last season with 10 goals and he netted in Blues' 2-0 home victory over Sunderland in April.

Gardner's impending arrival on Wearside will help to cushion the blow of the recent departure of young midfielder Jordan Henderson to Liverpool.

Black Cats boss Bruce has been busy in the transfer market this week and splashed out an initial £8.1million to sign teenage striker Connor Wickham from Ipswich Town on Wednesday.

Bruce has also agreed deals for Keiren Westwood and Gardner's ex-Birmingham team-mate Sebastian Larsson, and is keen on Manchester United trio Wes Brown, Darron Gibson and John O'Shea.

QPR launch Campbell bid

Sky Sports sources understand Queens Park Rangers have made a £1.25million bid to sign Blackpool striker DJ Campbell.

QPR boss Neil Warnock is yet to make a move in the transfer market since winning promotion to the Premier League and is now stepping up his bid to bring in new recruits.

Warnock revealed earlier on Thursday that he expected to sign a 'few new players' over the next couple of weeks and has made an offer for Campbell.

The forward enjoyed an impressive campaign in the top flight last season as he scored 13 goals during Blackpool's ultimately unsuccessful battle to avoid relegation.

Campbell has a clause in his contract allowing him to leave Bloomfield Road for £1.25m and QPR are understood to have met that figure.

However, QPR may yet face competition for the former Birmingham City frontman with several clubs understood to be keen on Campbell.

Fulham, Stoke City and Sunderland have all been linked with offers, but QPR will hope to win the race for his signature.

Colombia international Cristian Zapata appears to be on the verge of leaving Udinese as negotiations about a summer move to La Liga side Villarreal are ongoing, the defender's agent Massimo Italiani has revealed.

"Negotiations are slowly coming to fruition. I think that talks could be concluded pretty soon as we are delighted with the interest of an important team like Villarreal," Italiani was quoted as saying by La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The 24-year-old has a contract until the summer of 2013 with Udinese and an offer in the region of ?8 million could be needed to lure him away from Italy.

Villarreal face stiff competition from Liverpool in the race for the highly rated defender's services, however, while Bayern Munich are also believed to be keeping tabs on the centre-back.

The Yellow Submarine appear to have stolen a march on their rivals, however, as they look to add to their squad for an assault on the Champions League next season.

Zapata joined Udinese from Deportivo Cali in the summer of 2005 and has since made well over 150 appearances for the Serie A side.

Ajax's Demy de Zeeuw confirms imminent Spartak Moscow move

The highly-rated midfielder has confirmed that he will shortly undergo a medical with the Russian side and will leave Ajax after two seasons at the Amsterdam-based club

Ajax midfielder Demy de Zeeuw has confirmed he will undergo a medical at Russian outfit Spartak Moscow in the coming days and sign a three-year deal upon its completion.

The Netherlands international appears to be surplus to requirements in the Amsterdam Arena after a rather disappointing 2010-11 campaign and will now look to relaunch his career in Moscow.

"I will undergo a medical in the coming days and move to Spartak Moscow for three seasons if everything goes well," De Zeeuw revealed on his official Twitter page. "Long conversations with both clubs eventually made me decide to leave Ajax this summer."

Spartak Moscow and Ajax have reportedly reached an agreement for a transfer fee in the region of ?6 million.

The 28-year-old De Zeeuw joined Ajax from AZ Alkmaar in the summer of 2009 and has since made 59 Eredivisie appearances for the Dutch champions.
