Wigan Athletic have completed the signing of winger Albert Crusat from Spanish side Almeria for an undisclosed fee.
Latics boss Roberto Martinez revealed after the weekend's win over Queens Park Rangers that he was eager to improve his options before the transfer window closes.
Martinez lost Charles N'Zogbia to Aston Villa earlier in the summer and saw one-time target Vladimir Weiss join Espanyol, but has now bolstered his wide positions with the capture of Crusat.
The 29-year-old underwent a medical at the DW Stadium on Monday and has now finalised his two-year contract, which has an option for a third year if his stay is a success.
Fantastic news
"Albert is someone we have been trailing for a long time and it is fantastic news that we have managed to get him," said Martinez.
"He is an explosive player, who understands how to affect games with his attributes, having earned his long experience in such a competitive, tactical and demanding league as La Liga."
"He will add something completely new to the squad, he has electric speed, really quick feet and has played over 150 games in La Liga.
"I am confident he can adapt quickly to the demands of the Barclays Premier League.
"I think our fans will take to him because he is a really exciting player who can bring a crowd to their feet."
Barcelona-born Crusat, who was capped for Spain at youth level, came through the ranks at Espanyol, for whom he made his Primera Division debut before moving on to Lleida and then Almeria.
He scored 11 times in the Andalucian side's first promotion to the top flight in 2007 and has been on target 33 times in 199 games.
"It has been a crazy few days but I am really looking forward to the challenge of playing in the English league now that everything has been done," said Crusat.
"Roberto Martinez has shown great faith in me and I am determined to prove him right.
"I can't wait to meet my new team-mates and get started."
