Newcastle Sign AmalfitanoBy Anthony Marshall - Newcastle United Club ReporterNewcastle United can today announce the signing of midfielder Romain Amalfitano.
The 22-year-old Frenchman will join the Club when his contract at Reims expires on Saturday, 30th June. He will officially become a Newcastle player on Sunday, 1st July.
Born in Nice, Amalfitano is a versatile midfielder who is equally comfortable operating on either the right flank or in a central role.
He came through the youth system at Châteauroux before starting his senior career with Evian.
From there, Amalfitano joined Reims in 2010, and has played at the Stade Auguste Delaune for the past two seasons, helping them achieve promotion back to Ligue 1 last season.
Amalfitano, whose older brother Morgan plays for Marseille, said: "I am very happy to be a Newcastle player.
"I have seen a bit of the city already and it is a change from France but one I am really looking forward to.
"When a club like Newcastle wants you to play for them it can only be a good thing. I have taken the opportunity to play in the Premier League and cannot wait to get going."
