Petric Signs
Fulham Football Club is delighted to confirm the free signing of Mladen Petric on a one-year deal.
The 31-year-old Croatian international, joins from Hamburg following the recent expiration of his contract with the German side. He made 98 appearances for Hamburg and scored league 38 goals after signing from Borussia Dortmund in 2008.
Petric started his senior career with Swiss side FC Baden in 1998. He joined Grasshopper in 1999, making 114 appearances for the Zurich-based club before moving to Basel in 2004 where he registered 38 goals in league 72 appearances. He spent the 2007/08 season at Borussia Dortmund before signing for Hamburg where he played under Fulham Manager Martin Jol.
He helped Hamburg reach the semi-final of the Europa League in 2010 and scored the opening goal at Craven Cottage. Fulham overcame a 1-0 deficit to win 2-1 to reach the final.
Petric has made 44 international appearances for Croatia and has scored 12 goals which included the winner against England in the Euro 2008 qualifier.
Speaking at Fulham’s Motspur Park training ground this afternoon, Mladen Petric said:
“I like the Premier League and it has always been one of my wishes to come here. I played with Hamburg against the Club two years ago in the Europa League. It was very nice to play at Craven Cottage with a fantastic crowd and I have enjoyed a good relationship with every member of the Club I have met since.
I’m very happy to be part of what is happening at Fulham. The Club is doing very well and that was why I decided to come here. I know the Manager well and I know that he is always looking to strengthen his attacking options and I hope that we can do even better next season.”
