The Stoke defender shattered Ramsey's leg in a challenge at the Britannia Stadium in 2010 and soon after won a call-up to the England squad while the Arsenal midfielder began a period of recuperation that lasted nine months.
However, Shawcross has never represented England and is now a target for Wales having been educated for five years in the country, making him eligible for Coleman's squad.Coleman is also exploring whether to call up Swansea's Spanish right-back Angel Rangel and Cardiff defender Ben Turner, who qualify through residency and Welsh grandparents respectively, but will seek Ramsey's advice on Shawcross."Ryan Shawcross, Ben Turner, Angel Rangel - these are good players and players that could possibly strengthen us," Coleman told the BBC.
"But if I was going to go down that road, the first person I would speak to, especially in terms of Ryan, would be Aaron.
"I'd have that conversation with Aaron first and foremost because there are issues there.
"I'm not going to shy away from that. But can we improve Wales?"
Shawcross said in July 2011: "I have not considered Wales.
"Obviously he (Speed) wants me to play for Wales, but I made a decision and I am going to stick with it.
"Hopefully I can prove I am good enough to get into the England team."
