Scolari departs Palmeiras September 14, 2012
Former Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari was sacked by Brazilian club Palmeiras on Thursday.
Scolari, 63, had endured a poor season with the Sao Paulo side, and, after discussions with the club board, the former Brazil coach was relieved of his duties when a 3-1 defeat to Vasco de Gama left them second from bottom.
Palmeiras, who have the most league titles in Brazilian league history, have lost 14 of their 24 games this season, leaving them seven points adrift of safety.
The controversial coach was in his second spell in charge at Palmeiras, having previously managed the club for three years from 1997.
During his previous tenure he won the Copa Libertadores, but he had not been able to relive that success this time around.
Since being re-appointed in 2010, Scolari's men have struggled to find form, causing unrest amongst the club's supporters, who called for his sacking despite his hero status at Palmeiras.
