Everton have signed Thomas Hitzlsperger on a short-term contract.

The former German international midfielder put pen-to-paper this morning on a deal that will keep him at the Club until January.

Everton are currently awaiting international clearance for the signing. However, as the contract was signed before Friday's midday deadline, the 30-year-old would be eligible to be included in the squad for Sunday's Premier League fixture at QPR - subject to international clearance being granted.

Hitzlsperger has been training with Everton for a number of weeks in a bid to prove his fitness after recovering from a long term injury.

He figured as an over-aged player in a recent outing for Everton's Under-21s at Norwich and has earned 52 caps for his country during a career which has included spells at Aston Villa, Stuttgart, Lazio, West Ham and Wolfsburg.

Midfielder will remain with Everton until the end of the season.

Thomas Hitzlsperger's stay at Everton has been extended until the end of the season.

The former German international joined the Blues on a free transfer in September and has subsequently made seven appearances.

His short term deal was originally set to end in January but the midfielder will now remain a part of David Moyes squad until the summer.

Moyes said: "Thomas is going to stay until the end of the season. He wants to play, like everybody else.

"We've needed him and we will continue to need him with the games we have got in the second half of the season.

"I was thinking about letting Ross (Barkley) go out on loan and Thomas' experience allowed me to do that. I just felt that keeping him was important."
