Transfer News: Lyon confirm Swansea bid for Bafetimbi Gomis

Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas has confirmed that the club have held talks with Swansea City over the sale of striker Bafetimbi Gomis.
However, the 27-year-old has so far refused to accept a move away from the club - which in turn forced the sale of Anthony Martial to Monaco over the weekend.
To report a balanced financial set of results for the year, Lyon had to sell by the weekend and with Gomis hesitating they had to look elsewhere for money, and Monaco came in for the highly-rated Martial.
Aulas says that Swansea have already agreed terms for the French international striker.
"I had the feeling and I was even almost sure we could have convinced Bafe [to leave]," Aulas told L'Equipe.
"The Swansea chairman came to Lyon to sign the commitment and we checked the offer was superior to what Bafe earns at Lyon."
Aulas insists that they are looking to sort out Gomis' future, but it is down to the player's behaviour.
"It has become a behaviour problem more than a sporting problem. I could not imagine he would go against his own interests."

Swansea City are hot on the trail of £8 million-rated Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis, but that deal may still not be enough to convince manager Michael Laudrup to stay at the club.


Laudrup has long been a fan of Gomis, who scored 16 goals in Ligue 1 last year, but an £8m bid would amount to well over half of his transfer budget, leaving the Dane with little to spend for the rest of the summer.The Swans manager has recently come into conflict with chairman Huw Jenkins over a lack of transfer funds given to him.
Although it is unknown exactly what kind of a transfer budget Laudrup has been granted, the Dane is believed to have asked for a summer transfer arsenal two times larger than last year's, after he led the Welsh club to League Cup glory last season.
Swansea's total outlay last summer came to £13.5m, after they brought in Michu for £2m, Pablo Hernandez for £5.5m and spent £6m on Ki Sung-Yueng.
With Swansea competing on both a domestic and European front next year, Laudrup is believed to be particularly keen on adding another striker to his squad.
Despite Gomis's sensational form last season, Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas is understood to have decided to move the player on and fund the rebuilding of a side that only just squeezed into Champions League qualification and a third-placed finish last year.
Swansea will find it difficult to come away from talks with Aulas, who is renowned as a tough negotiator, with terms better than £8m for Gomis, whose contract expires at the end of next season.
