Crystal Palace are close to adding former England and West Ham striker Carlton Cole to their ranks as they seek to establish a foothold in the Premier League.
Cole has been linked with fellow top-flight newcomers Hull and Championship outfit QPR as well as two Turkish clubs, Kasimpasa and Karabukspor.
But he failed to agree terms with the European sides and the 29-year-old is believed to prefer to remain in the English elite, with staying in London also a priority.
Palace fit the bill and Eagles manager Ian Holloway wants to add Cole’s experience to the potential of Dwight Gayle, who has been signed from Peterborough for a club record £4.5million.
Cole will have a medical at Selhurst Park in the next 48 hours and, if all goes according to plan, the former Chelsea striker, who has enjoyed loan spells with Charlton, Aston Villa and Wolves, will sign for the Championship play-off winners by the end of the week.

Sky Sports understands Carlton Cole is in France discussing personal terms over a move to St Etienne.

The former West Ham forward is out of contract and has emerged as a target for the Ligue 1 club as they look to replace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who joined Borussia Dortmund this summer.

Cole is believed to be excited about the prospect of playing Europa League football for St Etienne after the club qualified for the competition by finishing fifth last season.

The 29-year-old England international began his career at Chelsea before spending seven seasons with the Hammers, scoring 48 league goals for the club.
