Manchester City eye Adil Rami as Pellegrini races to sign a defender before the weekend Injury-hit Blues are more willing to pay Valencia £6m for the 27-year-old than Atletico Madrid £5m for Demichelis, who is five years older
Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has lined up Valencia’s Adil Rami to help solve his defensive problems. Pellegrini will be without centre-back and captain Vincent Kompany for a month because of a groin injury, and watched his back-four crumble at set-pieces in Sunday's
shock loss to newly-promoted Cardiff.
The Chilean is trying to sign Atletico Madrid centre-back Martin Demichelis, with whom we worked when he was in charge of Malaga last season.
However, Atletico want £5million for a player they signed on a free transfer just two months ago, and deposed champions City
are unwilling to pay that much money for a 32-year-old.
That deadlock has seen Pellegrini explore other defensive options, and France international Rami having emerged as a candidate to fill the void left by skipper Kompany
and fellow defensive crocks Matija Nastasic and Micah Richards.
Although Rami, 27, is valued at £6m by Valencia, his lower age means City would be happy to spend more on him than on Demichelis, given his potential resale value
and the prospect of him being a key player for several years.
Both Demichelis and Rami are said to be keen on a move to Manchester, and Pellegrini wants a new defender in the ranks before Saturday’s home match against Hull.
