The Western Sydney Wanderers are up for sale – and could be bought for around £8.7million, according to ESPN.

They are currently owned by Football Federation Australia, and won the A-League Premiership at their first attempt in 2012.

Their trophy cabinet also holds the A-League grand final trophy, after they beat the Central Coast Mariners.

Competition

ESPN have reported that they face competition from one other unnamed Premier League club – who are looking to either buy a stake in the club or complete an outright buy-out.

UBS, the investment bank, has been given the task of finding a buyer for the club before the A-league gets underway in October by the Australian governing body – and they have put together a 50-page booklet for prospective buyers that details all the club’s assets, including their 20,000 seat stadium.

City lead the way in acquiring clubs in other countries after they went into a partnership with the New York Yankees to create an MLS franchise, the New York City Football Club.

They are looking to continue their expansion by buying the Australian club, according to the broadcaster, who are also set to compete in the Asian Champions League this season.

Unexpected

Meanwhile, Manuel Pellegrini has claimed that not many teams will go to Cardiff City and win – after his side lost 3-2 to them on Sunday.

“We must continue working. We have just started and not a lot of teams will win here. They are not an easy team to play,” he told the BBC – slightly glossing over the fact that West Ham United turned them over 2-0 in the first round of the season with little trouble.

Manchester City have denied stories they are about to buy Australian club Western Sydney Wanderers and have insisted they have not even thought about it.

The Premier League club were reported to be willing to pay around £9 million for Wanderers.

But City were bemused to hear of the speculation and are adamant that they have not even considered taking over the 2012-13 A-League champions.

A club spokesperson told ESPN: "Contrary to media reports in Australia, Manchester City Football Club has expressed no interest whatsoever in the purchase of any stake in the Western Sydney Wanderers.

"Also contrary to reports, the club has not requested, nor has it received, any 50-page information document about the sale. The matter is not under consideration."

Wanderers, who were only formed last year, are currently owned by the A-League and investment bank UBS who are trying to find them a private buyer.

City and another unnamed other Premier League club were mooted as potential new owners.

But while City have agreed a partnership with the New York Yankees to form a club in New York, New York City FC, they have no such plans to have a partner or a subsidiary in Australia.
