ARSENAL MAKE SAINT-ETIENNE’S GUILAVOGUI CONTINGENCY FOR NEWCASTLE’S CABAYE

Arsenal will go after Saint-Etienne midfielder Josuha Guilavogui if they fail to land Yohan Cabaye from Newcastle United.
The 22-year old French defensive mid appeared on Arsenal’s radar earlier in the summer and reports suggest that Gunners bossArsene Wenger will keep him in his plans just in case they are unsuccessful with their pursuit of Cabaye.
Guilavogui has been with Saint-Etienne’s seniors since 2009 and made his debut with France earlier this year.

Arsenal ready to move for St Etienne's Guilavogui if they fail to land Cabaye

Arsenal are interested in St Etienne midfielder Josuha Guilavogui, who has also been considered by Newcastle, should they fail to prise Yohan Cabaye from Newcastle.

Manchester City's Gareth Barry is also an option.

On the radar: France's Geoffrey Kondogbia (right) has caught the eye of Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger

Arsenal bid ?10m for French midfielder, should be able to complete deal before close of window

Dress me up and call me Sally (don't, please don't). Arsenal interested in a young, French player secretly impressing in the French league? Surely not? Well, according to Le10 Sport, they've even made a bid for him.
Josuha (no, that's not a spelling mistake) Guilavogui, for those who haven't heard of him, is a 22 year old defensive midfielder currently playing for Saint-Etienne in France. At the club since the age of 15, he made his first first-team appearance in 2009, and has since grown to become an important figure (currently vice-captain) in Christophe Galtier's team.
That Arsenal should be interested in him should come as no surprise. Their recent attempts to sign Cabaye from Newcastle show that the London club are in need of a midfielder and who better than a young, mature defensive midfielder already capped twice for his national team?
It was revealed last Sunday, in French football TV show Telefoot, that Arsene Wenger had expressed his interest in signing Guilavogui but according to Le10 Sport, Arsenal have since then gone a step further and actually made a bid for the player.
The reported fee is a surprising ?10m but with the price at which some highly-rated French players have left their respective clubs lately, it's clear to see why Wenger would want to start the bidding with a low offer. So far, there have been no indications that the owners at Saint-Etienne have rejected the bid and with the club looking to bolster their coffers, especially after having spent the majority of the money gained from Aubameyang's transfer, there is a distinct possibility that the board are seriously considering Arsenal's offer.
Arsenal were not the only club interested in Guilavogui. AS Monaco also had their eye on the 6ft2in Frenchman but, with the recent news that Kondogbia is on his way to the south of France after the release clause in his contract was activated, it would seem that Arsenal are the only ones left in the race (only 4 days left in the transfer window, after all) to sign the Guinean-born Frenchman.
Could Arsenal actually make a signing before Monday? It's looking more and more probable, but don't be surprised if even this deal is revealed by Jim White on the 2nd of September at 10.58pm.
