English giants Manchester United have once again looked to Spainin hopes of signing a new midfielder with reports claiming that a ?30million bid has been placed for Athletic Club Bilbao midfielder AnderHerrera.

Ander Herrera has been a staple in the Atheltic Club Bilbao lineup for several years now despite being only 24-years-old and is already considered one of the most important pieces in the squad by manager Ernesto Valverde.
However, Herrera’s time at the Basque club may be coming to an end with Spanish station Cadena COPE reporting that English giants Manchester United have made a bid of ?30 million for the versatile midfielder.
At this point it has been rumored that Athletic Club Bilbao refuses to negotiate any deal for Ander Herrera and would only sale if a club were to pay his buy-out clause which currently stands at ?36 million.
With the transfer window set to close in the coming days Manchester United could look to offer the full buy-out clause to land Herrera as it is expected that Athletic Club will reject any offers not meeting that price.

Athletic Bilbao president Josu Urrutia has confirmed his club have turned down a bid for reported ?30 million Manchester United target Ander Herrera.
Both AS and Marca reported on Friday morning that United had made a move for the talented midfielder, but that Athletic were standing firm and wanted to keep the 24-year-old.
At a press conference on Friday morning, the Basque club’s chief told reporters that a bid had been made but that Athletic were a special club who did not sell their best players.
"There is an offer for Ander Herrera," Urrutia said. "Our club is different, it is based on a feeling. Our objective is not to make money. We received an offer last night, but we have already told them that we do not negotiate for our players."
Herrera, a European Under-21 Championship winner with Spain in 2011, joined Athletic for ?8.5 million from Real Zaragoza two summers ago. He then signed a contract tying him to the San Mames club until 2016 with a release clause of ?36 million.
Urrutia, who played similar hardball when Bayern Munich and Juventus came calling for Javi Martinez and Fernando Llorente 12 months back, said that any club who wanted to sign 'Ander’ would need to pay the full amount.
"For a player to leave the player must show his desire to leave the club and deposit the release clause money [with the federation]," he said. "For us, Athletic is a unique club. The players have to feel that."
Herrera was a key man in Athletic’s run to the 2011-12 Europa League final under Marcelo Bielsa, starting both games as Manchester United were beaten 5-3 on aggregate in the quarter-finals of that competition. He remains a vital part of new boss Ernesto Valverde's team, playing a more advanced No. 10 role as Athletic have started the season with two wins from their opening two Primera Division games.
The Bilbao-born playmaker is the fifth La Liga playmaker to have been linked with the Old Trafford club this summer. Proposed moves for Cesc Fabregas, Thiago Alcantara, Mesut Ozil and Luka Modric have all fallen through at various stages in recent months.

DAVID MOYES is set to trigger a £31 million release clause for Athletic Bilbao’s Ander Herrera in a desperate bid to bolster Manchester United’s midfield before the transfer window closes.

Moyes has also lodged a £10.25m offer for Roma’s Daniele De Rossi and has not yet given up on landing Marouane Fellaini from his former club Everton.

He has made it clear he wants at least two new midfielders and, it is understood, would be perfectly happy if he landed all three.

But after failing to sign either Thiago Alcantara or Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona earlier this summer, Moyes is running out of time before Monday’s transfer deadline.

Bilbao rejected United’s opening £25m offer for 24-year-old Herrera on Thursday night, but Moyes is set to increase the bid by nearly £7m.

It will then be up to the player, who has been likened to Fabregas in style and starred for the Basque club when they outclassed United over two legs in the Europa League 18 months ago.

Bilbao president Josu Urrutia said yesterday: “We have had an offer for Ander Herrera. Our club is different, it is based on sentiment. Our objective isn’t to make money. We received the that we will not negotiate for our players. For a player to go, first the player must express his desire to leave the club and pay the release clause.”
