The 33 year-old Israeli international has been without a club since his three year contract at Stamford Bridge expired at the end of June.
He was in talks with both Premier League team Crystal Palace and La Liga outfit Getafe but in both cases the contract on offer fell short of Benayoun’s demands.
Charlton and Brighton have also shown interest in Benayoun but the Israeli has told friends that he prefers a team that looks likely to win promotion back to the Premier League.
