Wigan confirm plans to sign Arsenal flop Park Chu-Young on-loan Wigan manager
Owen Coyle has confirmed he wants to sign Park Chu-Young from Arsenal – but has warned the striker he must accept a pay cut to make the move. Chu-Young, who spent last season on-loan with Spanish side Celta Vigo, has been told he has no future at the Emirates Stadium by Arsene Wenger.
The 28-year-old is currently training away from the first-team squad having seen several moves away failing, but Wigan are ready to take a chance on the South Korean.
Coyle confirmed this week
he is keen on a loan switch, but has warned that the proposed deal could collapse if Chu-Young does not lower his wage demands. We’ve spoken to Arsenal about Park, and the discussions regarding the footballing side went very well,’ said Coyle.
‘We were also having discussions with the financial people at Arsenal, but I think the
package was just a little out of our reach at this moment in time. ‘We run our football club very astutely, and we make sure we will never be in financial trouble.
‘What people have got to understand is that, while we are looking to bring in very good players – which we have done –
we will only pay Championship salaries.’ Chu-Young currently scoops around £45,000-a-week at Arsenal and while the Gunners would pay part of that, Wigan are still struggling to agree terms with the player taking a pay cut.
The two sides will continue negotiations in the last few days.
