Primera Liga: Atletico Madrid agree a deal to bring Diego back to club




Atletico Madrid have agreed a deal to bring Brazil international Diego back to the club.

Diego, who helped Atletico win the Europa League during his previous spell in Spain during the 2011/12 season,

is to return to the Rojiblancos until the end of the season, subject to a successful medical.

The 28-year-old playmaker recently said he was committed to staying with Wolfsburg until his contract with the Bundesliga club ran out in the summer,

but he was unable to turn down the chance to go back to Madrid.

He said on www.clubatleticodemadrid.com: "I feel very excited. I'm returning to team where I felt fantastically well.

I'm only thinking about getting to work to help the team continue winning."

Atletico are currently joint top of the Primera Division, through to the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey and in the last 16 of the Champions League,

and Diego insisted he knew the team were heading for big things when he was last at the club.

"It was a matter of time before Atletico reached where they are. I already saw the potential of the team and the club when I was here," he said.

Diego will play at Atletico until end of season

Atletico Madrid have closed the loan deal for Brazilian Diego Ribas until the end of the season. The Brazialian returns to our team, with whom he won the Europa League.

Diego Ribas da Cunha is a new player of Atletico Madrid. The Brazilian playmaker has committed to end the season with our club, upon completion of a medical. I already saw the potential of the team and the club when I was here."

And the midfielder is committed to "providing what I did before. The management team is clear, our coach knows where to take us, and so I come to help take this path. I am very happy to be part of such a strong group, one of the form teams in Europe."

Finally, Diego pointed his desire to meet back up with the great friends he has in the squad: "I’ve not been able to talk to anyone but certainly soon we will talk. I'm anxious to see them. In Madrid I feel at home."

For his part, Jose Luis Perez Caminero welcomed the agreement with the midfielder: "We are delighted with the arrival of Diego because he give us more gaming alternatives and will further enhance our workforce. He is a player who brings different things that surprises with the final pass, which is associated with ease and complete our play set pieces with his great delivery. We have been after him, but for various reasons it was not possible. Now we've got him here until the end of the season and hopefully he can be with us much longer," concluded the Director of football director.
