Newcastle United are disappointed with the actions of its manager Alan Pardew this afternoon (Saturday, 1st March).
His behaviour was unacceptable and is not the behaviour we expect from the manager of Newcastle United.
It is most disappointing that this incident has taken the focus awayfrom what was a fantastic performance by the team and an excellentresult away from home which leaves the club in eighth place in theBarclays Premier League.

Sadly, the headlines tomorrow will not be focused on the result orthe efforts of the players, but instead on the actions of our manager.
Alan unreservedly apologised immediately following the game to theplayer, to Hull City Football Club and its fans, and to the fans ofNewcastle United.
We have held discussions this evening with Alan who has offered hissincere apologies to the Club and it is clear he deeply regrets hisactions. Alan has accepted a formal warning from the Club in relation tohis behaviour today and also a Club fine of £100,000.
The Club is now drawing a line under this matter and will be making no further comment.

Newcastle United have acted swiftly to discipline Alan Pardew after his flare up with Hull's David Meyler.

The Magpies have issued Pardew with a £100,000 fine for his actions after he flicked his head at the Hull star.

However, despite their closing statement now United must wait to see what action the FA take after an incident which has been widely condemned.

Pardew could face a long touchline ban after the FA insisted they would investigate his loss of self control.

Shearer: Pardew position untenable

Newcastle legend Alan Shearer has called Alan Pardew's position on Tyneside "untenable" after the manager was fined 100,000 pounds by the club for headbutting Hull's David Meyler in 4-1 win on Saturday.

The FA has confirmed it will look into the incident as FA chairman Greg Dyke told Sky Sports News: "It looks serious and we will investigate."

Pardew, who has six years left to run on an eight-year contract, is facing a significant ban with the referee's report being sent to the FA's disciplinary committee.

Now Shearer, Newcastle's record scorer with 148 goals in 303 appearances, has questioned Pardew's future at the club. "What on earth can Alan Pardew say to his players when they misbehave?" Shearer, who managed Newcastle at the back end of the 2008-09 season when they were relegated to the Championship, told beIN Sport. "I have never seen anything like that before, ever

"Frankly I wouldn't be surprised, and I don't think anybody will be surprised at all, if Alan Pardew were to resign over this. Even if he doesn't want to resign, the club might be saying to him, 'We might be doing you a favour - you resign rather than us sack you', because that will have to be in his thinking also."

Graeme Souness, in charge at Newcastle form 2004 to 2006, called Pardew's headbutt a "sackable offence". He added: "I've been frustrated and upset by a number of things, but I've never gone down that road. "Pardew has a track record of confronting people - he is extremely passionate, but this passion this time has gone too far."

Pardew apologised for the incident and said he meant the Hull player no harm, but admits he has let himself and the club down after an impressive display from the Magpies.

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has been charged in relation to an incident in his side’s game against Hull City on 1 March 2014.

It is alleged that in the 72nd minute of the fixture, Pardew was involved in an incident with a Hull City player that amounted to improper conduct.

Due to the serious violent and/or aggressive nature of the reported behaviour this case has been designated as non-standard.

Pardew has until 6pm on Thursday 6 March 2014 to respond to the charge.
