Frank Lampard: England midfielder named vice-captain Frank Lampard will be England's vice-captain at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, says manager Roy Hodgson. The
35-year-old Chelsea midfielder has 103 caps and will be deputy to skipper Steven Gerrard, ahead of Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney. "Frank's been the vice-captain all along in Steven's absences, which I think has been twice," said Hodgson.
"He's stepped up quite brilliantly."
Lampard has captained England six times during his career."I've always thought that he was going to be a key member of this 23 because of his experience and what he brings to the team apart from pure footballing ability,"
Hodgson told the Football Association website.
"He brings a lot of other things to us in terms of his leadership qualities and characteristics."
England will play three friendlies against Peru, Ecuador and Honduras before beginning their World Cup campaign on 14 June against Italy.
